We are so happy to know that interns enjoyed a great experience with Spot this summer. We're proud of our internship program, which has evolved to be a fun, educational experience for the interns ... More

    Pros

Free food, easy commute to work

    Cons

I thought I had hit the jackpot when I got a job here. After a few weeks I realized why the general public hate High Frequency Trading Firms. I added nothing of value to the company because it's all about the traders and making money for the firm. I was very happy when I left. The traders are jerks and I'm glad that I now work in a different industry that does not make me feel dirty. It's all about the money! The employees don't matter. The management (especially in the support group) are awful!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I personally can't wait to see you go under. Once more regulation comes your way you will be out of business.

I have been working at Spot Trading full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Chef, free food. Lots of activities to keep the employees blinded by the fact that the company won't be around years from now. Lots of my fellow co-workers are nice but they think they will retire here. On the flip side there are lots of arrogant jerks especially the management. To many people work here and there will be layoffs I'm sure sometime next year. I'm looking to leave and get a real job.

    Cons

The management is terrible. Like one poster said it's like they are nice but they will show you the door once they no longer like you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get over yourself.

I have been working at Spot Trading full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Spot Trading is a great place to work. It has the following positives:
-The people are nice (it is a jerk-free environment)
-The management is willing to try new strategies
    -Very entrepreneurial
    -They value your opinion
-Exciting growth opportunities (feels like a startup, even though firm has an established track record)
-Does a good job of making sure that new hires are a good cultural fit for the company
-Very understanding when it comes to vacation / days off / family obligations (kinda surprised that people mentioned otherwise in some previous reviews, but maybe it depends on your group)
-Benefits (continuing education, healthcare, free meals)
-Leadership is on the same page (no internal power struggles)
-Very open lines of communication up and down the firm (firm is very focused on communicating strategy to employees regularly, it is easy to talk to management one-on-one)

    Cons

Spot is not without its negatives, although I think the company is aware of them and working to address them:
-Understaffed in some departments and overstaffed in others
-Firm could probably run a bit leaner
-Many people at Spot haven't worked at other firms, so they can be a bit sheltered.
-The firm might be "too nice," meaning that maybe they might get better results by motivating with fear, giving people less leeway, etc.
    -Bonus pool could be bigger

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working to improve performance (in terms of both productivity and profitability) and Spot can become one of the best trading firms out there.
