    Good job, okay pay

I have been working at Square Enix

    Pros

Playing computer games for a living, great co-workers, amazing break room

    Cons

Bosses have a strained relationship with testers, pay is not very high, hours can be long near the end of the contract

I worked at Square Enix full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Really fun to work here because all of your co-workers are video game fans like yourself. HMO was great, tuition reimbursement was fantastic, 401k matching very good

    Cons

Pay is very bad, managers are just the people who stuck around long enough to make it to that level (so not exactly professional), upper management from Japan is out of touch with the general workers, obsessed with downsizing (no real job security) and time management, all department positions seem to be same pay despite skill set of individual

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Micromanagement really makes the entry level positions awful. You shouldn't have to clock out to use the rest room.

    Pros

    Everything is awesome at Square!

    Cons

Only downside was the commute, which is more personal if anything.

I worked at Square Enix as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

You work with people who enjoy video games and pop culture and the hours are swell

    Cons

No possibility of moving up, no recognition for more effort in the contract positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you have someone that cares and works harder than the average temp, it might be a good idea to at least give them advice or suggestions to move up, even if its into other departments.

I have been working at Square Enix as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

For trying to break into the video game industry, you couldn't find a better place to do QA Testing than Square Enix. The environment was well lit and kept cool (sometimes a little too cool) and you're constantly surrounded by SE merch. Getting to talk with your coworkers is easy and encouraged, and everyone there is very helpful and super friendly. Food was brought in and shared at LEAST once a week.

    Cons

The turnaround is pretty fast. People come and go and moving up is (I hear) very hard. I've also heard that some pretty major changes happened to the QA dept after I moved on. I hope the environment is still as great as it was when I was there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please keep being so cool.

    I worked at Square Enix

    Pros

If you NEED a job in the game industry and have been refused from all others than Square Enix may be the place for you.

    Cons

Politics to the 10th degree. You will be underpaid. You will be asked to work very long hours (sometimes meetings will be held in the middle of the night due to Japan staff. You will not see your significant other or children very much (except to put them to sleep). Your feedback is not welcome as Japan and EU do what they want. NA is a distribution arm and that's it. Simply put this is not a fun place to work at all. Staff has been seen crying at their desks, treated very poorly (yelled at), etc. Avoid....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at yourselves and think about why the turn over rate is exceptionally high at Square Enix. Fair compensation would go a long way. Make Square Enix a fun place to work and simply fire the executives that are consumed with power and ext. political. They know who they are.

I have been working at Square Enix

    Pros

Good benefits. Company is stable. You will learn a ton either by being taught but mostly by just doing it.

    Cons

Very slow to promote. Low compensation and can be long hours (if you let it).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fair compensation that meets industry standards.
