I worked at St. John Providence Health System full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great environment. There was always someone to help you out when you needed it. Never had a problem getting time off. Everyone work together as a team. Would recommend this company to anyone. Co-workers were supportive.

    Cons

Sometime it took to long to get a replacement for an associate that was leaving to go to a new job. If you are afraid of a fast-paced environment this is not the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Post jobs as soon as you know someone is leaving the Dept. Have training for your Lead people.

    Pros

My coworkers are great. Everyone is helpful and hardworking.

    Cons

There are too many administrative changes that are unclear and poorly explained. The lack of leadership's organization makes it difficult for associates to understand pay, benefits, holiday scheduling, etc. Also dissatisfaction in management is leading to associates looking elsewhere for work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Job reviews and experience should lead to opportunity for pay raises. Without this, too many associates are looking for jobs elsewhere.

I have been working at St. John Providence Health System as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Its a hospital, they are laying off people, but overall, there is job security in it. People aren't going to stop being sick.
The environment is clean and they maintain high standards.
They raises aren't much, but they are standard for the most part.

    Cons

Its a hospital, so its very bureaucratic.

The hospital begs you to donate a lot and whenever you get special rewards, its to buy stuff from the gift shop.

Good co workers. Short staffed. Overworked. Underpaid.

I have been working at St. John Providence Health System full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I have a great manager and assistant clinical leaders.

    Cons

I work on an acuity adaptable unit. I have up to 6 patients, even if I have patients on drips. Short staffed... not enough nurses or PCTs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Mandate safer nurse: patient ratios.

    Pros

Good pay, workload not too bad...
Good and bad days like any job...
    Management CAN be decent.

    Cons

Some staff have been there too long...need new, fresh people. ...with new perspectives. Stuck in the 80's mentality of care in some areas. Staffing issues...ancillary staff issues.....doctor issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look around more....the problems are obvious. ..do something.

    Pros

the workers truly live the mission to serve the poor

    Cons

    the administrators are above that

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

use more common sense and stop scaring your mid managers. Every once in a while I fall into the trap of giving a suggestion. Then I regret it immediately because you are shot down that quick.

Not the same picture that was painted during my interview.

I have been working at St. John Providence Health System full-time

    Pros

The building is beautiful but not "state-of-the-art" as they say in their post. They do have an amazing cafeteria, but you pay for it! Overall, everyone is friendly.

    Cons

Some of the worst physician experiences I have ever had (professionally). Medical practices are about 10 years behind mainstream hospitals. Most staff has a severe lack of interest in growing in knowledge and practice. They lack the ability/desire to provide a certain basic level of care that is supposed to be a new standard according to the new Affordable Care Act.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have done so in person but it was all casually tossed aside.

I have been working at St. John Providence Health System as a contractor

    Pros

It is nice to work in a Catholic environment

    Cons

Seems like things are decided last minute, no goals are being set, management is not engaged with department and have no concept of reality, end up doing work for nothing because decisions are constantly changing depending on who you are getting direction from

I have been working at St. John Providence Health System

    Pros

The experience, the education that you can obtain through the learning center and the advancement within the corporation.

    Cons

The expectations of working with less but producing more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more hands on instead of verbalizing what you want done down the line. Not call offices can run the same.

Former Employee - Clerical/Front Office in Roseville, MI

I worked at St. John Providence Health System full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits were decent- Pay wasn't the worst but there are other companies that pay more for the same position. When I was there, the doctors were great and a few co-workers were supportive. The patients were wonderful and made the day go by.

    Cons

Management is horrible. Inconsistent with policies ( depending on who you are within the company) and the CEO/management ignores this. Historically, the staff turnover here is very high. That is very telling. I really wish I would have listened when I was told the above info.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Greatness starts at the top- time to look within and clean house.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
