ProsThe commitment to live by the values is real. That doesn't mean everybody is perfect, but the culture promotes a genuine attempt to exemplify the mission, vision and values. People are generally friendly and helpful. I feel valued here.

ConsI've not experienced any major cons.

I felt at home with St. Joesph Health System

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSt. Joseph Health System is flexible with schedules to include a positive work-life balance. They encourage continued education and benefits are provided. There are opportunities for growth and development.

ConsSome downsides are from a leadership stand point. Not everyone is open to large initiatives and consolidations that include major change. Also, it may be hard to adapt to all the new reforms and changes in healthcare.

St. Joseph Health System is an exceptional values-based place to work.

    Director (Current Employee)

    ProsNot for profit, values-based organization
I feel we make a huge difference in the community
Biggest and Best Hospital in our area
    Fair employer
    Challenging work
My boss encourages innovation and creativity
    Workplace diversity
Great, committed employees- highly engaged staff

    ConsExecutive Management changes frequently, and good things we've done fall by the wayside because of lack of commitment by leadership;
Executive Management at local ministry currently seems to be floundering, punitive, reactive
    Weak leadership in Nursing Division
Health System imposes changes without regard to situation at specific ministries
Healthcare system in U.S. is archaic and needs a complete overhaul... things move slowly
Information Systems are fragmented, don't communicate with each other; we use way too much paper still, too much hand entering, possibility of errors

Advice to Senior ManagementExecutives need to set clearer (measurable) individual goals and expectations. There are several leaders in the organization who seem to be coasting, and collecting huge salaries for no visible results.
Executives need to hold leaders accountable for results

    Opportunity for Productive Employees

    Director (Current Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsGrowth opportunity, faith-based, fair pay, friendly environment, access to senior leadership.

ConsCan be political, minimal staff in most areas, conflicting ever-changing priorities, ongoing struggle between system office and individual hospitals which causes great delays an impacts productivity.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease transparency, greater alignment with hospitals so we can function as a true health system. Hoag? I don't even know where to begin...

Great people with great values, management seems to be stuck and inefficient

    Analyst (Former Employee)
    Orange, CA

ProsThe people you work with are great - values, culture, work ethic.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful, from System office into the various hospitals.
The employees generally have better ethics and values than many in management and executive levels.

ConsExecutives and management don't 'walk their talk' which can be frustrating.
Some departments are undergoing extensive and haphazard restructuring - IT and other system office level departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementLive the core values or revise the list. You only embarrass yourselves.
If you can't competently manage change, find consultants that can do it for you and do it well.
