SJO is an awesome place to work at

Intern (Former Employee)
Orange, CA

I worked at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange as an intern for less than a year

ProsThe hospital building itself is recently renovated and clean. Employees and volunteers are friendly AND competent! The working environment is open and accepting as well as quality driven.

ConsI'm not sure if there was a con. Even the cafeteria food was delicious and budget-friendly with the employee discount.

The mission is something the hospital and health system takes to heart.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange full-time

ProsVery supportive middle management and coworkers.

ConsPoor senior financial management and planning over the past several years have led to massive layoffs.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to attract new physicians. No clear communication how that will be done. Unclear how well the hospital will function with so many experienced staff gone.
(Regarding the question Approve of CEO below, the CEO for the past few years is Steve Moreau, not Larry Ainsworth).

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Was once a great and dynamic place to work but is currently struggling with its identity.

Pros* Faith based
* Great values
* Committed employee base

Cons* Core values are not as prominent
* Consultants are used for everything

Advice to Senior Management* Try to understand that the employees and physicians are the face of the hospital. Patients receive care and services from the front line staff. Your strategic decisions need to include the voices of the doctors and staff.

ProsHelpful staff, warm and welcoming for the most part. You will find a nurse or 2 who will help you out when you need it.

ConsSometimes you don't get your allotted break times. Some people take too long of breaks and leave staff drowning on a busy shift.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it up.

Experience vary on a day to day basis, depending on staffing and management team of the shift.

Registered Nurse (RN), ICU (Current Employee)
Orange, CA

I have been working at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange

ProsHighly skilled staff, friendly and supportive with a strong work ethic.
Over all stable financial state of the hospital.

ConsWorking at St. Joseph hospital feels like a "race" for high numbers in terms of how many Pt. come through the hospital and Emergency Department doors.
Overworked staff; Inconsistent policy on lunch brakes; Management does not seem to reflect true values of the Hospital any longer.

Advice to Senior ManagementConcentrate on the quality of the Patient care instead of how many Patients you are able to see.
Schedule flexibility completely gone now. If your staff overworked, tiered, and simply hungry, patient care will suffer.
