I worked at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Competitive salary, self scheduling, plenty of overtime opportunity

    Cons

Terrible ED management, shows preferential treatment to his "friends", upper management asked former coworkers of current ED manager to withdraw complaints against him when he was promoted, peer review consists of nurse practitioners, no bedside nurses on committee

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decrease pt to RN ratio, educate nurses with no ICU experience

I have been working at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As a full-time employee for five years, I enjoyed a great work-life balance, my co-workers felt (and still do feel) like family. I appreciated the mission-based culture, patient-centered philosophy. As a part-time contract worker after becoming a parent, I appreciated the opportunity to work from home.

    Cons

Typical of any hospital system, bureaucracy sometimes impedes rapid progress, physician politics can influence campus policy.

I have been working at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Faith based hospital, Priests and Nuns always available to comfort pts

    Cons

I work in the ED and frequently feel that the staffing is dangerous. Administration seems to only care that the pts get out of the waiting room, and that they don't leave without being seen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more nurses, adhere to the staffing ratios that you tell prospective employees we have.

I have been working at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System

    Pros

Excellent healthcare system that cares about their patients as well as their employees. Upper management does a good job managing the hospital financially and keeping layoffs at a minimum.

    Cons

Very small pay increases due to cuts in healthcare reimbursement rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with creative ways to financially reward employees. Also, put more capital into information technology.
