    Pros

    Good work/life balance. Nice coworkers.

    Cons

No career advancement, managers with no management skills other than having "important" friends, highly political, no innovation just merely do somewhat "trendy" out there half heartedly regardless of application.

    Pros

    Great people to work with.

    Cons

    - Lower pay compared to ALL other medical device companies.
    - Not only is upper management disorganized, there is no defined set criteria (mainly due to the new director).
    - Choose favorites without recognizing performance.
    - Allocation of money is horribly spent by increasing temporary positions with an intent to use and fire after contract duration.
    - Reporting criteria is archaic and is not abiding by modern CFR regulatory regulations.
    - Job is highly stressful with minimal pay.
    - Literally have to fake it to make it. I highly recommend finding another career opportunity elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

INVEST in a unified database and don't work your muscle by hiring excessive workers. Stop choosing favorites and decide based on PERFORMANCE.

    Pros

Large, stable, growing; tries to do the right thing.
    Benefits are pretty good.
    Awards stock during growth periods.

    Cons

Averse to in-house innovation. Farms it out to, e.g., IBM.
Practices old-school, craft-shop software development. Afraid of anything but last-year's technology -- unless it's developed out of house. Adores Microsoft. Averse to open source, free software, believing that software is worth what you pay for it, the more the better.
Sylmar organization purged all the experience and talent out of Sunnyvale in a power coup.
Uses "rank em and yank em" forced ranking system, a kind of popularity contest for performance reviews that G.E. alumni brought in, despite it being incredibly unfair.
Current manager has scarcely any actual software development experience.
Got rid of nearly all engineers over forty, even though they were highly talented.
If you want to progress, plan on traveling to Sylmar on a regular basis to make political connections there.

    Advice to Management

Don't punish engineers for taking calculated risks. Instead, provide opportunity for it.
Don't treat managers as though they're so special compared to non-management professionals, and make it easier to get onto the management track.
Don't allow engineers to get stuck in dead-end jobs, forever maintaining old, bad software.
Identify bad managers and remediate, remove supervisory duties, or expel them.
    Beautify the ugly campus.
Make the place independent of Sylmar, or at least put it on genuinely equal status. The Sylmar vendetta against Sunnyvale has been very harmful.
Encourage freedom of speech -- then listen to what you hear.
Encourage competition with Medtronic, etc., not fellow employees.
Turn off the freakin' pager system for anything but true emergencies.
