    Pros

Working for an organization that advances Truth in the wake of a culture ebbing with death and desolation is ennobling. The mission and vision are worth the long hours. Overall, it is a very rewarding enterprise.

    Cons

As a non-profit organization, we always have to find ways of doing more with less.

    Advice to Management

    Keep fighting the good fight!

  2. Good professional development. No advancement.

    Pros

There are ample professional development opportunities if you push for them. I had strong support for volunteer work (e.g. flexible schedule, occasionally promotion of events, etc). Generally, it is easy to do impactful work if you want to take the initiative to do it.

    Cons

Constant cuts in benefits. No merit raises organization wide for a decade. No cost of living raises since the 80s. No opportunities for promotion or reclassification, even after an organization wide salary study was conducted. Also constant staffing cuts as positions go unfilled due to noncompetitive pay. In other words, your work load will constantly increase, but you will never make more than you make on your first day here.

    Pros

Was treated well by all employees regardless of my status as a temp. I was frequently told that my work was appreciated.

    Cons

It took nearly two years for my position to be approved as a full time regular and then I found out that I wasn't a candidate because my boss's boss didn't approve; I wasn't 'perfect.' . And no one bothered to tell me this until I approached my boss about it seeing that the number of candidates for interviews had increased greatly.

    Pros

    Pay checks are on time.

    Cons

Emperor peasant style management. Future dependent upon willingness to accept status quo, patronage and favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Support education and truth rather than patronage.

    Pros

Stable job environment, challenging projects to work on, low stress office.

    Cons

Need to be a "yes man" to move up higher in the organization. New ideas are only given lip service. Lots of politics - naturally, it's government.

    Advice to Management

Promote independent thinkers, and embrace change when it makes sense to do so. Advocate and promote an agenda for the department, don't just react to external forces.

    Pros

Management is great, easy to work with, and the hours are very regular. Lots of time off once you gain some seniority, and great benefits.

    Cons

Government work is bureaucratic by nature, and SLC is no different. Union issues, legal road blocks, and paperwork get in the way of getting stuff done quickly.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to empower your employees.
