If you want to work in fine dining or luxury this is the place to start or end. The training they give is amazing

    Cons

Very very corporate. No room for personalities

    Advice to Management

Make sure the staff is happy because a lot is demanded from them

    Pros

    - Great benefits (medical, unbeatable & by far the best dental, vision)
    - Hotel discounts ($49 - $199 with 50% off F&B during stay)
    - St. Regis Comp nights for full time employees
    - Looks amazing on your resume
    - Friendly family working environment (everyone looks out for each other & have their back no matter what the situation is)
    - Decent pay
    - Associates can easily move within departments & to other St. Regis hotel properties (very supportive with promotions & transferring to other departments or properties)

    Cons

    - Poor management leadership
    - Employee cafeteria food = dog food
    - No support from the mangement (do not walk the talk)
    - Employee travel discounts on popular hotel properties are almost impossible to secure
    - long hours
    - work life balances (sometimes you have to work 7+ days)
    - Very minimum appreciation for your commitment

    Advice to Management

    - Learn to compensate your employees who work really hard within your department
    - Be supportive and show appreciation for all the work done

    Pros

Luxury Hotels. Encouraged to do anything possible to make the guest's stay unique and memorable. Starwood had a lot of very useful tools for the staff.

    Cons

The company's standards and philosophy are good on paper but this too often gets ignored because the company is too aggressive to make money. They overwork the managers and burn them out. The insurance has gotten very poor with high deductibles. Many times the push to make money conflicts with the goal of giving uncompromising service to the guest. Upper management doesn't have the luxury experience that top hoteliers had in the past. They are good with numbers but don't have the leaderships skills to lead the staff and set a example. Most of the time you see them walking around looking at their iPhone instead of setting the example to the staff.

    Advice to Management

Quit managing from your office. Get into the operation.

    Pros

Used to be a very proud workforce with strong moral, strong team environment and management support.

    Cons

Many of the current executive management team is a group of cut throat, backstabbing, unqualified individuals who establish no clear direction or priorities and run around putting out fires all day. No clear direction or vision.

    Advice to Management

Replace the director of rooms with a qualified, creditable individual with luxury hotel experience. Replace the manager with a more personable, moral boosting, encouraging individual. Improve the union - company relationship and end years of allowing union to dictate policy.

    Pros

Very Friendly, Professional atmosphere. Made me feel like I belonged right away. Taught me ins and outs of fine dining. Very personable GM. Ability to move around within company as well as to other locations. Benefits were nice! Learned a lot through this job and met many people I'm still friends with. Overall great experience, get on if you can and have the time to work.

    Cons

Expected me to work many, long hours, all weekends and holidays. Could be a pro if your looking for hours. Because the company was so large it was often hard to be heard and there was often communication breakdown between departments which led to frustration.

    Advice to Management

Take a huge interest in thorough efficient communication between departments. Treat all employees like they are capable and important. Have high expectations of all employees and they will feel like they need to reach them. Don't play favorites at all. Keep a sense of humor and humility.

    Pros

The resorts and hotels are beautiful and I was proud to be part of Starwood. Great employee benefits for travel. Hard working middle management and great team work.

    Cons

Inconsistent standards across the brand which often made it hard to make guest happy who were used to higher services in other St Regis hotels.
