    Pros

Great benefits, often flexible hours, great colleagues, great building, opportunities for growth through ongoing training, competitive salary in line with other banks

    Cons

Large organisation can sometimes make processes sluggish and sometimes repetitive. Some years without much salary escalation - some years with high staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Try to focus on aligning processes and reevaluating how certain administrative tasks get done - this will make people more efficient and not force them to focus on mundane tasks.

    Pros

They would support you on any project that contributes to the growth of the bank´s franchise

    Cons

Not that big when it comes to compete with the large international banks. You´ll have to replace funding with creativity.

    Advice to Management

Flatter you key people. Don´t let them go to other banks.

    Pros

The bank is committed to making a difference to South Africa. Anyone who works hard and shares the vision will find a supportive environment.

    Cons

Often too many people who should have been moved out of the company.

    Advice to Management

Reign in the negative egos and empire building.

    Pros

The bank looks after the staff well and fairness is one of it's major value. Willing and daring to expand overseas during bad times, which turns out to be a cheap buy.

    Cons

Weak strategic top management, always invested in wrong projects or hired improper candidates. Some poor leadership blocking the potential staff to move forward.

    Pros

Good lifestyle, nice people. REasonably decent place to work. Office is well located and decent.

    Cons

Morale was low, strategy continues to change daily. Pay was atrocious. There seems to be a lack of direction and constant uncertainty. Had the potential to be a really decent player but constant infighting prevents that.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on strategy

    Pros

Africa focus keeps work very interesting. You will encounter problems and challenges that are unique and diverse and will really make going to work interesting and fresh

    Cons

Poor management and leadership. Shrinking international footprint. Lack of opportunities outside of Africa

    Advice to Management

Sort out your strategy and stick to it. Stop letting talent leave.

    Pros

Good pay, nice people, nice office and location, interesting work and well regarded company in commodities trading world. They seem to be making progress with their systems and processes and have a genuine will to improve things.

    Cons

None really. I hope the merger with ICBC goes well.

    Advice to Management

Keep focus on improving systems and processes, constant reviews and retrospectives, don't get complacent.
