I worked at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

Work in a very dynamic environment and can always experience new things. Very exciting in the financial industry. Very organized and friendly people.

    Cons

Sometimes you need to push more to get the job done. This is a common thing in a large company I guess. Too many people below you and above you.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly and forgiving environment for the most part. Willing to take chances and provide juniors opportunity for career growth. Giving you space to have your own work style.

    Cons

Less team work and guidance from senior or supervisor. Often there is transition hiccup. Have to be self motivated and fully independent. Management more interested in effort and relationship building.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more structured and clear line of reporting matrix. Should pursue meritocracy rather than relationship based culture.

The Cons outnumber the Pros, but the Pros outweigh the Cons. Barely. Difficult in NY. Better in other centers.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

Emerging markets focus is compelling and lucrative. Fiscally healthy. Weathered the recession quite well. Compensation can be very good depending on the position. Benefits package is excellent: $60/mo. employer contribution for transit, FSA, Comprehensive Medical/Dental, with domestic partner coverage, generous paid leave, 3 volunteer days/year, paid training, 4% 401(k) employer match, pension.

    Cons

Lost opportunity to capitalize on weakness of bigger banks during downturn. Limited growth potential in NY... advancement usually requires relocation to target markets (Asia, Africa, Middle East). Terrible trading/risk management systems. Strategy from senior management is muddled. IT investment is well below the market standard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in IT. Decentralize management away from Singapore. Leverage US resources more. Hold to your strategy and present it more clearly and frequently.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

Great people at work and at play - numerous ocassions to interact at work as well as socialize outside of the job. Concertered effort to train and offer support when required.

    Cons

Internal information technology is under staffed or not prompt to reply or to fix isses especially in the most critical time of the month when deadlines need to be met

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More of an attempt should be made to encourage/train or direct personnel who are in the middle of their careers....a lot of emphasis is on either new graduates or candidates with twenty plus years of service
