    I worked at StandardAero

    Pros

Good Co worker's clean shop and provided all tooling for job

    Cons

For my last two years there I was never busy. Over time was cut to nothing last 6 months and always a promise for more but two years of promises. I gave up.

I have been working at StandardAero full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

StandardAero is the leader in the industry for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of TFE 731 engines and business jets. They offer pretty decent benefits and work flexibility. There are lots of opportunities for advancements and the company believes heavily in promoting from within. There are many instances of people in higher positions that started "from the bottom". There is a lot of company pride in the shops.

    Cons

The company does not progress in terms of IT infrastructure. They are always on the verge of a sale, trying to cut costs wherever possible. The company has changed over multiple times and the current CEO has made it obvious that he will get to the bottom line no matter what -- even if means cutting people who have built a lifetime career there. Opportunities for training or keeping up to date with the most current trends are really non-existent. Extremely weak marketing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in people and quit trying to cut costs just to put money in your own pocket.

    Pros

Great potential, knowledgeable workers, tremendous capability

    Cons

Horrible upper management since the Dubai purchase (exodus of the Canadian Management). Executive Management tinkers with things that are not broken and ends up adding too much overhead = loss of profit. Too many "excellence programs" that add nothing to the bottom line. Salary that is not in keeping with the industry equivalents. Central IT is equivalent to pre-80's architecture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting Supply Chain dollar chasers to run divisions or the overall company. They only have one motive - drain every ounce of profit from the company as it crumbles around them. Individuals who are knowledgeable of the business (Engineering types) are better suited for an MRO company. Your employees are your most valuable asset, not your Executive Management Team.

    Pros

Very relaxed work environment, incredible vacation time.

    Cons

As with any government contractor, job security will never be there. However, senior management keeps working hard in getting new contracts awarded.

I was employed for 8 years by StandardAero and the long term company goals and strategies are very inconsistent.

I worked at StandardAero full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Many of the good managers and directors are gone but still a few remain. If you are fortunate to get into a good business unit, your employment can be stable.

    Cons

Very little, if any, opportunity for progression. The salary is not competitive at all. The company tends to appear to have an attitude that their employees don't really have any other options and they exploit that attitude through the lack of opportunity and salary progression.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would highly recommend placing a higher emphasis on the education and strategic thinking of managers and directors. In addition, morale is extremely diminished in the fact that employees don't feel a real sense of opportunities. While there are several exercises and ploys put in place where the company appears to address these issues, there are no substantial results.

I have been working at StandardAero full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

StandardAero is a great company. The work-life balance is perfect as you typically work 40-50 hours a week but it's easy to make appointments. There are a lot of positive people who bring a good enthusiasm to the shop that makes it a really easy place to work. You typically get out early on Fridays, usually between 12-3 depending on your work load.

    Cons

They pay a little below an average starting salary position for an engineer. There are a few negative people that will do everything they can to bring down the mood. It doesn't seem to like there is a lot of room to move up in the business though as most of the managers are younger people(30-40's)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get rid of some of the negative people in the shop and try to get the quality department to work with engineers instead of them acting as the "police" who tries to find problems instead of help you solve them.

Good knowledgeable friendly staff, always ready to assist with any problems experienced with company.

    I worked at StandardAero

    Pros

This company has clean well maintained facilities, all tooling is provided and in good condition. It usually hires experienced highly trained employees. Promotions are available to most employees and annual pay raises are standard.

    Cons

Managers are often in-experienced with no training. I have been trained in various management methods. I have held many management positions for over fifteen years with the responsibility for success solely dependant upon me. However, my immediate supervisor had been at the company longer so even though he had little training and very little experience he still ran things his way often unfairly for the associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a lot of dumb well educated people around make sure they can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. I believe past experience is a better indication of performance than a college degree.

Benefits are actually pretty great. Lots of psuedo team building but it seems mostly a smokescreen.

    Cons

Other locations up north like to stay in the past - Office 1997..REALLY??
    lots of favoritism.
if your manager is an ego-maniac (a slim minority but still exist), you will hate your life.
lots of great folks recently laid off
