Smart People / Great Work Environment

    Web Contractor (Former Employee)
    Stanford, CA

ProsSomewhat stable / secure work environment. Benefits seem to be very good. They support work-life balance and seem to be changing a formerly "sleepy academic" culture to a more performance based. The campus itself is beautiful and there is a lot of pride working for one of the world's greatest universities.

ConsThe pay isn't near a competitive as what you'd get at Bay Area tech companies (but they attempt to make up for that with good benefits, work environment and other perks) and it can be a pain in the rear to commute / park there.

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Administrative Assistant

    Administrative Associate (Current Employee)
    Redwood City, CA

ProsGreat benefits, great time off (esp. if you're a parent), great tuition grants for your child's care, great, health improvement classes

ConsDoesn't pay enough for the workload

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more flexible hours and pay better. It's hard enough to survive as an admin in Silicon Valley.

    Decent passage as a teacher

    Assistant Professor (Former Employee)
    Stanford, CA

ProsI learned more than I had to teach, it was illuminating.

ConsI found a lot of competition for career, and not in a good way (e.g. bad reviews from peers, groups of friends that review each other above everyone else).
