Current Employee – been working at Stanford University Medical full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The professors here are some of the best in their field or are up and coming and doing exciting work; there are no big problems with funding; there is a sizable grad student community, and they are currently working on improving the education experience for grad students
Cons – A large part of your grad school experience depends on what lab you join and what project you choose. If you choose your lab/adviser and project wisely, you will probably do well and enjoy grad school. However, at the beginning of grad school, it is difficult to know how to best select an adviser and project, leading to frustration and unhappiness after several years of grad school. Also, I had a difficult time dealing with a variety of unusual administrative issues during grad school; the people in the registrar's office are not particularly helpful and I ended up relying on department administrators to help me navigate the system.

Current Employee – been working at Stanford University Medical full-time
Pros – For an academic research institution, it pays relatively well (especially compared to neighboring UC's). It's funding is relatively stable, and the staff community support is decent. Great stipends for education, childcare, etc... and a concerted interest is shown by executive staff about the health and wellness of the staff and faculty. But as is the with all research jobs, most of your experience really depends on who your Principal Investigator is, you research team, and the success of the project itself.
Cons – Most of your research experience really depends on who your Principal Investigator is.

Current Employee – been working at Stanford University Medical full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Physicians, medical assistants, mid-levels are usually supportive and collegial. Stanford provide great benefits.
Cons – The Cancer Center administration does not allow any feedback from their employees. They created another layer of management called the DMG's who tend to manage through intimidation and threat. They have created an atmosphere of distrust and low morale.
Advice to Senior Management – Have the employees have a say or safe way to communicate and send feedback without the fear of recourse.

Current Employee – been working at Stanford University Medical full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Overall the skilled medical professionals with direct patient contact are overwhelmingly brilliant, generous with their time, and treat their employees with dignity and respect.
Cons – In some of the sectors under the General Services division upper management have no regard for individuals outside of their inner-circle of favorites. Outsiders are regarded with no dignity and no matter what their education, work experience, or skill, they are never given an opportunity to advance in their career.
Advice to Senior Management – Let go of your personal preferences and do the right thing.
