    Pros

    great people, multidisciplinary collaboration and a north american reach that is remarkable. a place to practice the trade while building the wings to fly.

    Cons

    communication between offices, teams and leadership needs improvement. Practice of the corporate vision is weak. Identity and vision is leaking.

    Opportunity for advancement, lots of experienced people to assist in the development of career growth, competative salary, lots of offices for relocation possibilities

    Pros

    Interoffice communication is pretty good at Stantec. They have a good (visual) business model and support this conceptually. There is good web-based technology to link offices and keep marketing, project team formation and financial information flowing.

    Cons

    The firm is not a progressive firm and is heavily top-down with little bottom-up information flow, though that is part of the official party line. This firm is managed quarterly, i.e. for short-term profits, like every other publicly traded firm. Sustainability is mentioned on their webpage, but it's not part of the corporate culture, rather an add-on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please consider deepening the sustainability culture and also adding lean thinking for design team integration. This is a major innovation that other large firms are making happen (CH2MHill) and even small firms are nimbly making this a major part of their culture to great advantage.

    Pros

    Strong diversity of talented individuals. Good benefits including reduced health care costs for making healthy choices. Good stock ownership plan. Strong technology investment by corporation.

    Cons

    Staff at times want to hear the vision from senior managers with positive results that have impacted our staff locally. Staff are not allowed to have trash cans in their office. Recycling bins are everywhere though...

    They maintain their equipment, the pay is good, chances to take on more responsibilities.

    Cons

    High turn-over rate but that is with any surveying department.

    This company is in disarray, would strongly recommend looking elsewhere more so if female or minority. Look at profile.

    Pros

    A few people who are left considered "lowly" by management (PM's on down).

    Cons

    Pretty much everything at this company is negative. People are treated very poorly. Due to high layoffs (and those who just leave) most people above staff level, and some at are afraid to share information. It is the most back stabbing unethical office I have ever worked. If you truly interview here ask to talk to people in the office or just walk around the tension is very thick. Ask about the turnover rate or how long anyone has been there. You will be hard pressed to find someone over 1yr....

    Go back to Canada!

    Pros

    Location of office is close to freeway

    Cons

    Managment lacks leadership skills and mentorship. Lack of opportunity to grow, lack of promotions, and adequate pay or raises for staff and technicians. Office is run by males, very little opportunity for women to grow. No female project managers in office. Lack of promotion within.

    Stantec is a company which is focused on profits and business but did not seem to be value employees over shareholders.

    I had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people. The benefits are acceptable. Its global position can provide opportunites and a signficant network

    Cons

    There seems to be a lack of employee valuation by upper management and few opportunities for advancement even when skill level and and immediate suppervisor recomendations warrent so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    When you send out e-mails that state that you value your employees and contribute to their success, have actions that promote those statements. While I had wonderful managers in my office, I felt extreemly unappreciated by the company as a whole which promted my departure.

    Nice office space and nice staff, at least before they all quit.

    Highly dysfunctional office structure, a lot of politics and lack of well defined leadership.

    Pros

    Good benefits for the type of company they are. Lots of good, friendly people. Good equipment. Free parking. Clean restrooms.

    Cons

    Too much focus on short-term profits without any regard to business strategy and staff retention. Their matrix structure is disfunctional due to lack of clarity with regard to the roles of "leaders" and severe loss of experienced, competent leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Return to a focus on being a good company rather than just a big company. Reduce acquisitions and spend money on fixing what you already have.
