When it's good, great; but when it's bad - watch out!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat teamwork - if there are good people working there. Great for students, working around class schedule most of the time and lots of young people around.

ConsIncredibly high manager turnover. Really unpredictable, ineffective, and poor management styles. Introduction of a new sales program without giving employees the support, leverage, or pricing to close sales.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time training from the TOP down using effective principles and build a culture that supports it. But if you're going to continue this inefficient system, sell it off.

    Amazing opportunity and fantastic culture

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Richmond Hill, ON (Canada)

ProsThe work-place culture was incredible. I was provided with so many opportunities to develop and enhance my own abilities/skills. I would love to work there in the future.

ConsI was a summer co-op student so I did not get to accomplish as much as I would've liked in the time that I was at Staples.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think they did a great job so I have no criticism

Staples Canada is a highly political, extremely successful organization that was both wonderful and mind boggling as an

    Field Operations Leader (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsSome truly great leaders guide the ship. There are many opportunities for growth and they are everywhere.

Consfar too politically motivated, tell you they want your opinion but they really don't, a serious disconnect from one department to another, too many old ideas at the top of the food chain

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to truly grow - listen to your people and your customers and take action - you commission more studies than the federal government

Mixed experience, good for gaining expereince

    Staples Technology Associate (Former Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros-Understanding and fair managers
    -Given responsibility, if you want
    -Employee discounts
    -Open/accepting work environment

    Cons-Low pay/no commission
-No transition to corporate from the retail level

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are wasting the opportunity to use corporate career opportunities as a carrot for the retail level employees in order increase quality of hires and decrease turnover. All you have to do is tell incoming retail associates that after 1+ year they will be given preference at the corporate level upon graduation.

    Sinking ship

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThis company is the perfect place to work if you are lazy, not-driven to create results and could careless about Customers. From the top down, they do not care about the associates or their customers. If these are your beliefs than this is the place for you.

ConsStaples is the most irresponsible retail stores I have ever heard of. Their is a definite break down trying to keep the shelves full and the store merchandised. The lack of customer service is incredible. They try to sell warranties on products that are over priced and serve no value. I was ashamed to work there.
