Pros
Sales, knowledge, discount, people, fun
Cons
Upper level management needs to look at young talent
Advice to Senior Management
look at young talent
Pros
Large, semi-stable company
Lots of discounts
Average benefits
Cons
silos, silos, silos - one hand has no idea what the other is doing
Advice to Senior Management
Get in touch with your people
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at Staples would be compensation fairness, the flexible hours, and the competence and understanding of the management teams. Advancement opportunities and tools are all available if you work for it.
Cons
Some of the work becomes very monotonous and/or tedious. Management could communicate amongst themselves a little better. Store-to-Store communication could be better as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Great at helping the associates get what they want out of Staples, such as growth & development tools or hours. They do sometimes, though, become lax in their own performance.
Pros
Staples is a great place to work. the company cares about its employees and tries to accommodate. I recommend this company to work for.
Cons
Staples is definitely behind the eight ball on hourly wages and salary. The pay could be more especially for the amount of responsibility that is placed on your shoulders.
Advice to Senior Management
pay more, delegate less and care more about the personal lives of the associates. push less for warranties and more for whats right for the customers. Thats all
Pros
Great experience, looks great on resume. The pay is good for your first year, then starts to go down considerably. Benefits are amazing. Easiest job I've ever had, and you don't have to work 40 hours. Spend 2 years here and you'll be able to go wherever you want.
Cons
The products are boring, and the job is too easy and not at all challenging. It's not a position they want you in for longer than 2-3 years, and the mgrs will be the first to tell you that. They want to promote you to another Staples job, but if there isn't one in your area you're out of luck. After the first year, you make considerably less money. But it's a great job to get your foot in the door of outside sales and pad your resume.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the commission structure a LOT stronger. We make very little in commissions, especially after the first year when the subsidy is gone. Also, provide more reasons to stay in the position for longer periods of time.
Pros
Smart people. Great reputation. Not a lot of ego. Worldwide.
Cons
Compensation is not great. Tough industry in a bad economy.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees.
Pros
Stable Job, Fun place to work normally, great people to work with.
Cons
This past year Higher Management has squeezed the store do more with Less. also Associates can not survive on what is paid. look at what is important i say the customer the company use to
Advice to Senior Management
Look at your DM's what do they really do also look at your warehouse they can't pack worth a darn and its unsafe
Pros
Decent pay
Decent hrs
Interacting with customers
Cons
Management incompetence
Management disrespect to employees
Management lack of precognition to employees
Management failure to pull their own weight in the work place
Management failure to see who is selling the most and holding the easy tech department up
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to employees performance, dont lead employees on for raise or promotion only to lie to them and hire your buddy, politics need to go, job should be based on performance. Not who can kiss the most ass... :-)
Pros
The sense of togetherness in the store is strong as well as a sense of competetion in the store. Although sometimes the pressure can be much.
Cons
Some of the main issues I have with Staples is they say it;s a low pressure sales environment, yet they put an enormous amount of pressure on you to sell or your hours get cut.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop putting so much emphasis on plans, redo easy tech, allow for your techs to obtain professional certifications, rather than the laughable "easy tech certs", pay your people what they are worth and do not be so stingy with hours.
Pros
good community to work with, love to talk to others about life and socialize - good place to start out as teen
Cons
some pretentious customers, not satisfied with one manager (not a common occurrence), environment does get old
Advice to Senior Management
treat employees with respect, everyone is fairly competent minus the difference in age, wish everything didn't need a manager override of key
