Learned a lot about tech and able to improve sales ability and got an inside look about how these types of large corps are run

    Cons

Scheduling shifts were often sloppy and wouldnt be known until even right before. Dealing with some of the crazy customers but thats a given.

    Pros

Hard work is recognized, easy to move up if you ask for it and prove your worth. (Just know the right people to ask and don't be bashful). A lot of P/T associates care about their job and make the managers job doable. There are Staples all over the country, moving and keeping your job is pretty easy. This can be a great career job for some, and a great stepping stone job for others. If you don't like to work and have pride in your day to day, then a security job is a better fit for you where you can sit around all day and twirl your thumbs.

    Cons

When a store has poor management, it can be miserable to work there. When a store has poor employees it's also miserable. A lot of employees don't think they are paid enough, some of them are right and some are just lazy. New programs are brought in very quickly and with a lot of pressure from upper management which can be OK if a store has good management and follows best practices.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your quality employees, quickly! Don't make them wait because they either leave or turn into employees who don't care and don't see a point anymore. Give internal promotions the same pay levels as external hires. Pay out commissions if you want to boost sales. Don't let managers get away with not following company policies and best practices, one bad apple creates other bad apples.

    Pros

Diverse and well-rounded retail experience. Provided general experience regarding store retail but tailored to a business setting due to products. Opportunities for sales experience through the Rewards program as well as customer interaction as a Sales Associate.

    Cons

Minimum wage, for the most part. Often repetitive and tedious work for closing and weekend shifts. Not intellectually gratifying.

    Advice to Management

Great managers definitely make the whole experience more worth-while. However, a bad manager could easily make the situation intolerable.

    Pros

Friendly Staff Overall, Comfortable work environment, Employees are generally cared about.

    Cons

They value profit over customer experience, Never got the raise promised, Management was a bit flaky, Some workers were "lifeless".

    Advice to Management

Improve the customer experience - stop trying to sell them stuff they don't need. Screen your employees for more energetic individuals. Focus on employee needs (low pay), instead of cycling out employees all the time.

    Pros

They are flexible with your schedule
Salary is based on your experience
Majority of the associates are nice and cool to work with
You learn a lot on the job

I've worked as a cashier and was moved up to the copy center department. Not too much is expected of the cashiers but expect to work a lot in the copy center department since it is the busiest department in the store.

    Cons

Not enough communication between management and its associates
Must have an extreme amount of patience to deal with the customers because majority of them are rude
Not enough associates scheduled in each department so you won't have time to take a lunch break
Due to poor scheduling, you are expected to do a lot which can be very stressful

  11. I work mainly with software issues and very knowledgeable with systems.

I like to work hand on hand with leaders to enhance my skills and learn from them.
