I worked at Staples full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They did attempt to have a work/life balance.

    Cons

As a contractor, I was treated like a 2nd class citizen.

I worked at Staples full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    > Somewhat flexible with hours
    > You don't have to be certified to excel in the computer department

    Cons

    > Changing store operations consistently; confusing customers and associates
    > Low pay for jobs that require a skill-set.
    > Management is unprofessional
    > Anybody who can google search results can pass their "certifications" for tech work
    > Outsources their tech work to a third party vendor remotely that causes longer repair times and numerous communication issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

General Managers seem to not understand the concept of the employees that run the store. District managers and other higher forms of management are completely disconnect when it comes to operations and how employees. They expect numbers by inventing scenarios without any type of knowledge on why the stores are falling behind; causing frustration and a decrease morale environment. My advice? Hire Management that have actually worked in the retail stores.

I have been working at Staples part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are great, and pay is above average.

    Cons

Uncertified techs are hired on at higher wages than certified techs. Employees with bad work history are given promotions above those with polished references. Bad attitudes and consistent negative behavior is mistakenly rewarded, company wide. Involved associates supervise inventory control introducing conflict of interest and perpetuating inventory shrinkage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure chain of command in the retial chains. Re-examine certifications and credentials of your techincal associates. Run random drug screenings on your supervisors.

    I worked at Staples part-time

    Pros

Great experience to have, good on a resume. Decent when you are looking into a first job, definitely better things out there for a high schools student.

    Cons

The company is in a downward spiral. Upper management trickles down horrible attitudes with their horrifying expectations. The culture consists of SELL SELL SELL or get out. Do not care about the customers, only that the customers buy a cell phone or iPad. If you are in need of general office supplies, look elsewhere as there will be nobody left to help you with that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't train one thing and then completely change the direction of your company so nothing works anymore. If you train customer service, don't only serve customers who want to buy a cell phone or iPad. Don't have incredibly high expectations, one person can only do so much.

I have been working at Staples part-time

    Pros

If you want hours you will be able to get them. The constant task help the hours go by and you will be able to find things to do. Most of the costumers are great and pleasant.

    Cons

Sales associates are expected to do too much at once, you have to make customers buy anything you can and get freight done in the blink of an eye. The management is so over stress that you will get treated like you're expendable and if you lose a sale management will threaten to fire you just so you will try harder to make a sale. Most of the time it will be one associate on the floor expected to do all these things. These things will cause a burn out fast causing less productivity. The longer the employees have been their the less they have to do by making new employees do their jobs for them and the new employees will be the ones that are held accountable for the other person's job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more than one or two associates on the floor so that way more can be done with out being unreasonable about expectations. Stop having competitions to see who is in the lead for different sales causing employees to be treated horribly because a potential customer doesn't want to buy a new computer.

Fun co-workers. Learning new technology is cool.

    Cons

Undertrained management team. Horrible marketing. Products never in stock. False advertising.

I worked at Staples full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Learned what not to do when operating a business. Learned how you do not treat your employees and customers. Gave me the ability to recognize a horrible company with severely lacking human resources department.

    Cons

Being employed by Staples. The stress to do what was demanded of me from executive management, and knowing it was a "do it or lose my job." It still weighs heavy on me to this day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Base your business around your most valuable resource---your employees.

I worked at Staples full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Days off (Although expect to still be called)

    Cons

Erratic sales initiatives that detract from the core business, terrible work/life balance, insufficient pay to motivate/retain staff, overwhelmed subordinates, mock management positions like team supervisor (You get what you pay for), ineffective district and regional management (Although they seem to be disappearing in droves), everyone is underpaid, bonus program is unachievable because company is faultering, the whole place is a nightmare from which you must quit to ever wake up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resign! I mean seriously, take a look at yourself and the work you do, use empathy (If you're damaged mind can accommodate such sophisticated emotion) and realize how many employees dislike the company and how many customers can feel that every day and furthermore realize your decisions/directives created this defunct situation! Oh and stop accepting bonuses for horrible performance.
