I worked at Staples part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I worked at staples for more than 2 years , as a cashier the job in general is really easy . As far as co workers and management they were the best really outgoing and understandable. The schedule was flexible , but I did work most weekends. When requested a day off , I always got it approved.

    Cons

Same thing everyday , the company was making drastic changes, and not much room for growth. Toward the last 3 months they were cutting our hours .

I have been working at Staples

    Pros

1.) Given the independence to buld book of business.
2.) Staples has a well know reputation which helps getting foot in the door in order to meet new cleints.

    Cons

Very disorganized company with high turnover of sales people and management particularly in the Copy and Print divison.
Yearly commission and bonus structure of 3% to 6% of total weekly sales is not very competitive.
    No opportunity to make money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1.) Hire people with Print and Copy knowledge.
2.) Don't cap sales peoples salary. Nobody is motivated if you limit their sales potential
3.) Spend the money and train your staff
4.) Little room for growth no matter how well you perform. It felt like all upper management positions were always taken even before one applied.

I have been working at Staples

    Pros

You learn a lot about a bunch of products you never thought you would. The associates are friendly and the management as well. Staples will teach you to be a better salesman or saleswoman.

    Cons

There are many changes in management. With that comes changes in your routine, which is not pleasant. The pay is not good. When you do get a raise, it may be anywhere from 10 cents to 75 cents. The schedule is always changing, which makes it hard to plan trips.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be transparent with their employees. Do not be information hoarders. Gossip about rumors leads to loss in productivity, so be transparent. Be personable with your employees, and never fake. A grumpy employee will never go the extra mile for you, so treat your employees like family.

I have been working at Staples

    Pros

Nice co-workers, decent pay, opportunity for advancement if you do your job well.

    Cons

Unless you are management, you cannot work more than 23 hours in a week. Management occasionally has unrealistic expectations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only allowing employees to work for 23 hours is ridiculous and needs to be changed. Also, employees should receive more benefits.
