Pros
Benefits are great... dental included
Cons
There is little room for mobility. If you want to move up in the company, you have to fight for years and push your way to it.
Pros
Real people - grounded
Great people to work with
Company is very focused on their "partners" (employees)
Free pound of coffee every week! Woot!
Great place to have a career
Cons
IT Department is seriously lacking good management
Starbucks does COFFEE - not technology
Decisions by consensus - makes for insanely slow decisions/progress
The most passive/aggressive place I've ever seen in 20 years of employment
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees - 3rd party consultants aren't always the DEFACTO truth / best option
Let go of "this is how we've always done it". That attitude is going to ruin Starbucks
Change is GOOD.
Pros
So long as you have a good team of co-workers it can be an easy and relatively enjoyable experience. However, without that the time will drag.
Cons
Many of the customers were rude and disrespectful because of my employment position. Despite the fact that myself and my fellow co-workers were nearly all working part-time while paying our way through college.
Advice to Senior Management
There seemed to be a disconnect between the store managers and regional/upper management in my area.
Pros
great culture scheduling flexibility great benefits
Cons
Poor work life balance for managment pay below minimum salaries for similar careers with similar job responsibilities
Advice to Senior Management
Improve work life balance for managers
Pros
Personalities are diverse and refreshing, most of the time.
Cons
Always remember, the employees hired, are sometimes a reflection of the managment.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just hire someone, just because they've applied for the job. Please, think of the rest of the crew and decide whether or not the newbie would be a perfect "fit." One person can completely change the dynamics of an amazing group of talented people.
Pros
It is an efficient organisation and every item has its place. There are no complicated methods and after a while the work becomes easy.
Cons
There is not much atmosphere given the fact that you are not working with more than three people at any one time. Also the pay is not spectacular.
Advice to Senior Management
Feel more perks are necessary to improve staff morale. A new starbucks t shirt would also be nice as after a while the old one is not nice.
Pros
* flexible work hours
* excellent benefits(don't have to pay alot)
* chance to work in other starbucks shops
Cons
* very political
* was not satisfied with pay rate
* poor communication from senior management
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your partners, the customer is NOT always right.
Pros
The benefits are truly great. You get stock options, health insurance for part time partners, vacation time and a free bag of coffee every week.
Cons
It is very labor intensive and is extremely hard on your body. Cleaning is about 50% of the job. The hours are ruthless, either getting up and at work at 4am or staying open to 11 or midnight on the weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
They are not very sympathetic mainly because they don't have to be up at early as you do. Nor do most of them actually know how to bar-but they happily tell you how to anyway. I would say that they need to be in the stores more and not in meetings.
Pros
co-workers and customers were wonderful
Cons
district level management and above only interested in profit
Advice to Senior Management
put people first again. starbucks was once a place to be very proud of working at.
Pros
Love my coworkers and the job in general.
Cons
Really hard to advance, very political and do not pick the people who deserve it.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees better
