Pros
Starbucks is great in the fact that they offer flexible schedules for those that need it (students, stay at home moms, retirees, etc.). It is a busy fast paced environment that is focused on the customer's happiness and relationships between the employees and the customers. If your a social person who loves interacting with people this job is perfect for you. They seem to offer accessible advancement to those who want it.
Cons
It is a tiring job at times. Working with a younger generation you get your share of diverse work ethics. I am only 23 but I can tell you there is a maturity gap and a laziness that is seen in some of our younger employees. Store managers can either be gems or duds. I've seen someone stay with the company that should have been fired a long time ago and corporate just turns a blind eye on them. Its unfair to those who witness it everyday. Other managers have been relentlessly pestered by dm's and yet they're doing a good job with the employees, customers, and store. Labor is always an issue, at least with our current manager. Lowering the labor hours takes away from the extra things we have to do everyday to keep the store to the health standard Starbucks has set for itself.
Advice to Senior Management
Rethink labor. You want happy customers and clean stores? You cant cut out the time for it. Listen to your little people. Sometimes Store Managers are deceitful. They're always going to be on their best behavior when the DM and Regional Manager are there. Trust what your shifts and Barista's are saying. Most of the time those who care will speak up, those who don't will just quit. Sales are fine to push, new products are great for more interest, but don't force our managers to make us up sale every customer, that's not what Starbucks is about. We're a coffee shop not a car dealership.
Pros
great benefits, other employees can be jerks, but is overall fun and exciting especially when getting to meet new people everyday.
Cons
upper management does not always recognize employee achievements on an individual level.
stressful in certain situations, but most jobs are.
Advice to Senior Management
recognize employees on an individual basis
Pros
Starbucks has great benefits for part time and full time employees, a 30% discount on everything, a pound of free coffee or tea a week, free beverages on your shift, nice environment, great product, make all kinds of connections, cute uniform
Cons
Can be stressful, multitasking is a MUST, sometimes you get psycho customers, memorization and customization are things management pushes, you might slip a lot
Pros
You get all the drinks you want for free and coffee beans
Cons
A very busy place to work at
Advice to Senior Management
You should know that everbody works hard to satisfy customers
Pros
Great community
Great co workers
Great Customers
Great Benefits
Opportunities for advancement
reasonable pay
Cons
If your store or district is poorly managed it can ruin the entire Starbucks experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay closer attention to how district managers and managers are running the districts and stores.
I worked in a district where there was absolutely no support from upper management. Everyone the transferred to that district could not believe the lack of support.
happy baristas/supervisors = Happy customers
Pros
Free beverages, fun partners to work with, opportunity to grow, you can transfer easliy to any other location across the country, great benefits.
Cons
Low Starting pay, picky customers, lots of responsibilities for low pay( clean the restrooms, mop floors, dishes, prepare items for next business day, ect...)
Advice to Senior Management
Work on having great pay and benefits together and not just one or the other.
Pros
Great people to work with, free coffee drinks that you can make on site - free barista training! Great discounts on drinks!
Cons
Long days, grumpy customers. You have to deal with a lot of angry people on the phone when you work in the call center. Makes for a rough job.
Pros
The benefits are good, not to mention tips. Starbucks can be a rewarding job, and is a good company to have on a resume. They also have a 401-k, stock options, and full time benefits even for part time partners. Also, as long as you are working, you are allowed as many beverages as you want. As an employee you can mark out one pound of coffee, or one box of tea per week. If you marked out 1 pound of coffee a week for an entire year you would have about 52 pounds of coffee!
Cons
The cons are, you have lots of customers which equals lots of drinks and that can be stressful considering everyone wants their beverage now. You are constantly put under a deadline of sales that are usually too steep to achieve. Customers can be angry, and also there are some customers that try to receive free drinks, using a variety of methods.
Pros
Very good health benefits.tips,free coffee.
Cons
Not everyone pulls their fair share of the workload, and all they want you to do is talk to the partners, hardly any consequences
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure the workload is equal and all rules aare followed not just the ones the managers pick
Pros
I get to run a business. The best part is the variety of stuff I get to do on a daily basis. Everything from HR to accountant to psychiatrist to plumber. The job is comprehensive.
Cons
The job is comprehensive. It constantly tests my ability to handle an onslaught of multiple competing priorities. There is a lot of support though.
Advice to Senior Management
We need to rethink the way we manage labor. I have enough time to get everything done but only because I commit extra unpaid time each week to run my business. I'd like to be responsible for my metrics plus a specific amount of floor time each week (maybe 32 hrs?). This would be better than imposing a maximum limit of non-coverage time.
