Pros
+Flexible hours
+Competent management who can empathize with student needs
+Great culture that is born from rich history
+Good benefits (medical, dental, occular etc...)
Cons
-Dealing with rude customers
-High stress during rush hours
-Very hard to switch shifts and not always guaranteed time off.
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest allowing more freedom to switch shifts. The high percentage of students means a lot of homework and getting stuck working an 8 hour shift can be very tough when you are not allowed to switch shifts.
Pros
- great people
- free coffee
- new CIO is quickly bringing in new technologies ie. mobility, social media, etc
- a corporate culture that respects everyone
Cons
- medical benefits are ok, spread across all employees so corporate employees will end up paying more out of pocket
Pros
Easy, fun, work environment. A great way to talk to customers and meet people from the neighborhood.
Cons
Some of my co workers were complete idiots.
Advice to Senior Management
Swag
Pros
Great people to work with. Solid company, good benefits.
Cons
Trying to get everything done in just 8 hours per day that is being asked of you.
Advice to Senior Management
Change how labor is scheduled. Sometimes it feels like more things are asked for management to do that we are allowed to schedule.
Pros
We get a free lb. of coffee every week, benefits for 20+ a week (pay into), stocks granted, 401k at a high match % and it's next to impossible to get fired. You really have to mess up to get the boot. I love my job. If you do well and work really hard, like myself, advancement is easy. If not, it's a great temporary job to get you to where you're going.
Cons
There are a lot of customers that you wouldn't to talk to if you weren't getting paid for it. It's frustrating when people think our job is "easy". It's not.
Pros
Great place to work, very fun environment. Customers love going there so the interaction is pleasant. Fellow partners are good for the most part.
Cons
needs more room for advancement. More stores also and more opportunities. 5 years at a position and not being able to move up because there is no room for it. It really is not fair.
Advice to Senior Management
Help out the little people remember we are the face of starbucks. The company is great just needs to help us rise to the top and advance in our careers. I loved my time at starbucks and would have stuck with them and loved every second for the next 30 years if there was room for advancement.
Pros
The benefits are amazing even for part-timers. Great interesting co-workers. Starbucks is a very ethical company and if you love people you will get along great.
Cons
I didn't agree with some of the management and how certain employees were promoted.
Pros
-Great benefits
-Fun workplace
-Never the same thing each day
-Exciting environment
-Great space to move up in the company
Cons
- Rude customers
- Lazy managers
- Lots and lots of training but WELL worth it all!
-Requires a good memory!
Advice to Senior Management
- Have worked 3 Starbucks and have dealt with many different managers, some good and some bad... It all depends on the store I suppose.
Pros
Tips
Insurance
Free pound a Coffee a week
Free Food
Free Drinks
Some Nice Customers
Some Co-Workers
That's a list of the good things. Over all, I was a very optimistic person when coming in to work. For me, the best time to work is in the afternoon because people are less cranky and more chill. I have meet some pretty amazing co-workers that I still keep in contact with. Some of the regulars knew my name and it was pretty nice. There were days that I really like my job. Also there is a mandatory raise every 6 months in the job. I believe its from 25cents-75cents more and hour. You get evaluated every month. One of my favourite parts was that i would go in early eat my bagel and drink my coffee before my shift, so I could start off at a good day. I miss that.
Cons
4:45am Shift
Throwing out the trash
Crazy Homeless people
Insane Line in the morning
Bad Manager
Selling stuff
Here's my list of the bad. I only lasted for Starbucks for 2 years and here is why. I transitioned from evening to morning shifts Really bad mistake. The lines at Starbucks in the morning are crazy long, but it makes time go ALOT faster. Same people, same drinks, same thing everyday. Oh, and when VIA first came out, we had to SELL it or we would get in trouble. Stupidest thing ever. And you get some really mean customers. One Homeless man threatened to beat me up after work. In a way its sorta funny now, but at the time it wasnt. I also had a manager who was lazy and never liked to do the dirty work. OH and don't let me get started on the sanitation. Some lady would go into the store unexpectedly and rate the stores sanitation. This is the reason why I quit. I remember my shift manager made me feel worthless bc she was in so much pressure. Just like any other job, it has its ups and down. If you want to work at Starbucks, go right ahead.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat others the way you like to be treated
Pros
Fun co-workers, out of work before 10 am daily, money! starbucks has awesome advancement opportunities, also has awesome medical, dental and vision insurance, without having to work a full 40hours
Cons
Stress, Demanding customers, Rude customers
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership can sometimes be shaky, but mostly no complaints, as long as they are consistent there is no problems at all.
