    Room for Growth

    Barista - Starbucks (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsThis company offers room for growth, if you want it. The transition from barista to shift supervisor is a well-managed transition. They set up for success, not failure.

ConsAs with these types of jobs, the hours are early, your working very closely with people and you can have difference of opinions.

    Nice company to work at

    Barista (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsGreat environment. Music playing all the time, discounts on food and drinks. You get nice tips and there is always opportunity for more hours if you want. Also, nice company culture.

ConsSometimes have to put up with stingy customers... but hey, nobody is perfect!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Filled with perks... if you can make it through your first year

    Shift Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsTuition reimbursement, 401k match, travel savings program (paying for a chunk of my honeymoon), CUP fund in case anything happens to you.

ConsThe customers can be absolutely terrible, and you have to stand there and keep apologizing and smiling. If you don't work under a good and competent manager it can be miserable.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo your admin work on time, don't roll your eyes at your employees, don't make empty promises, communicate with your staff often and honestly

Free coffee is good, if being poor is ok

    Barista (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsFree coffee is just about the only thing that I liked about this job, other than the shifts not being too long.

ConsDoesn't pay well at all, so unless you are in high school or living with your parents and don't have any expenses, then it is not worth the free coffee.

Local Management Does Not Fulfill Starbucks Culture & Values

    Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsDedicated team members, good benefits, responsive corporate staff.

    ConsDemoralizing write ups and micro-management.

Advice to Senior ManagementLocal DM's need training on how to positively motivate team members and store managers. They focus too much on what's wrong and not on what's going well. Encouragement goes a long way in having dedicated employees.

    A great place to work.

    Shift Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsFree coffee! Interactions with customers and co-workers.

ConsCleaning. Dish washing, cleaning floors and tables, bathroom, and taking the trash out. Definitely not my favorite part of the job, especially when homeless people use the bathrooms.

High expectations met with disappointment, after learning that I was basically a fast food worker.

    Barista (Former Employee)
    Las Vegas, NV

ProsFree drinks while you work, friendly atmosphere.

ConsThe job of barista should be relabeled, "janitor with some coffee making in-between."

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management was just ok. Not very motivating, but not bad either, just whatever.

ProsGreat starter job, decent benefits and stock options

Conscan be pretty busy, customer base can be a finicky to downright rude bunch. Its to be expected from the food and beverage industry though.

    ProsHealth benefits, if you qualify.

ConsEverything about working here sucks. You have to work extremely hard for little pay and the customers are the worst.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being so cheap.
