Pros
Great people to work with. great chances to advance.
Cons
because of all of the store closings it is a little harder to get promoted then it used to be because there are not as may store openings.
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your partners! they know more of whats going on in the stores then you do.
Pros
Great people to work with and great atmosphere
Cons
can get very busy and stressful
Advice to Senior Management
I think there should be more raises
Pros
you get a rase every 6 months
Cons
no respect for baristas there replaceable
Advice to Senior Management
use more positive reinforcement and allow your baristas to do there job
Pros
Health insurance is the main benefit for me. The company is ethical and treat their employees well. Starbucks is picky about who they hire, so my co workers have usually been pretty awesome people.
Cons
The pay isn't very good. The hours can be a little hard to work around. The busy hours can be stressful.
Advice to Senior Management
It seems to me that Starbucks invests a lot of money into their R&D, and Marketing, but not enough into Operations. This translates into new product promotions that stores/employees aren't prepared for. This isn't a major problem, but it's the only advice I could think of.
Pros
Great benefits package. Great hours to work if you like early mornings. Don't work you to death.
Cons
Too many focuses. Ie upselling pointless crap like cds & other retail items. Lack of focus on retaining quality employees and promoting unqualified candidates.
Advice to Senior Management
Sticking to the basics. Quality coffee and quality people. More frequent visits and visits from District managers.
Pros
Extrememly flexible schedule. At the store I worked at, management was very friendly, willing to work with you/help you develop within the company. Casual environment and very fun coworkers were a plus. Benefits were pretty good, I usually worked 30-35 hours a week and had full med/dental/vision coverage.
Cons
As with all corporate retail type jobs, it's kind of annoying to always have to push selling stuff you really couldn't care less about selling - example: VIA instant coffee. You always have targets to hit with beverage/whole bean coffee sales. Getting promoted can necessitate a lot of brown-nosing to management. And frequently even those who are promoted receive their new position due to people skills as opposed to leadership or competency.
Advice to Senior Management
I worked there for almost 4 years, with a 6 month break in the middle. It got extremely tiring always having corporate make decisions that changed out we operated within the store Frequently the manner in which employees were instructed to manufacture certain beverages would be changed for seemingly pointless reasons. Example: there was a period of time when we were not permitted to pull single shots -- only double shots were deemed to be of a high enough quality, which led to wasting mass quantities of coffee beans, all for what I can only assume was a publicity stunt.
Pros
fun environment to work in
Cons
crappy customers a majority of the time
Advice to Senior Management
only part-time is reasonable to work
Pros
Working with customers and the positive and energetic environment.
Cons
Pay is not high, most of the other employees are early 20's and younger. Not many full time positions offered.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase of pay and hours would increase employee's happiness with the company.
Pros
Flexible hours (for the most part), quick advancement from entry level to supervisor if qualified, many managers are fun and relaxed, great work for students.
Cons
Poor communication from management, constant changes with very little explanation and notice. Very poor recognition for superior work and leadership. job duties and expectations are constantly increased while raises (3% max) are held back for any "weakness", however slight. Typical corporate structure and environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Employees should be given more respect. Schedule changes and job duty increases always benefit Starbucks, while leaving employees feeling unappreciated, underpaid, and less motivated to provide the excellent customer experience that Starbucks has sought and come to be known for.
Pros
Good benefits with 20+ hours per week. Flexible schedule for students. Free drinks on shift. Free pound of coffee each week.
Cons
Management, particularly district manager level and above makes snap judgements about stores and implimenting changes. Have to be able to deal with a lot of change, both in staffing and in products. Things change all the time, and usually are not communicated very clearly.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay less attention to the customer voice surveys, they are not accurate representations of what is actually going on in your stotres. If you are going to continue such surveys, they should be on the back of the receipt tape and offerred to all customers like almost all other companies do. Also, start offerring free wi-fi. All of your competitors have free wi-fi and you are driving people away.
