Leave this company off your "want to work for" list

    Attorney (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsInitial salary offering; decent 401K benefits if you could last five years at this company

ConsUnable to use your vacation time; micro managed; severe lack of communication; practices border on unethical; no opportunities for development and career advancement; company has poor future outlook; no peer support; nepotism involving senior level's kids, and their significant others; best bet is to make some money and network another job elsewhere

Advice to Senior ManagementAging executive management needs to realize they have to pass the torch to someone else pretty soon.

Nice place to work with horrible senior management

    Senior Underwriter (Former Employee)

ProsRelaxed atmosphere, good local management, good local people on the ground. The company is new so they are still working through growing pains and their horrible systems.

ConsNo direction, Nepotism, Senior management are incompetent and don't know how to lead. Took my resignation like a break up. Not only asked me to leave (which was expected) but then did not compensate me for the two weeks notice i provided them (unexpected and very unprofessional for company that wants to be taken seriously)

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with a little more respect

    Poor leadership and management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCompany has a lot of capabilities and hunger to write business

Cons"Leadership" is poor with inexperienced managers in both region and home office; not able to service clients; writes business due to price alone

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring and promoting AIG previous employees whose only value is to play in the sandbox with poor senior management; start over with hiring people that actually know how to lead

Started off as a great place

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI spent 5 years with Starr and had a very enjoyable experience. The people are smart, efficient and problem solvers. A great environment!

ConsBy 2010 many senior executives from AIG came over, possibly after waiting for some of the scandal "dust" to settle. With this came the old boys network I had wanted to avoid.
And things simply deteriorated from there.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo back to problem solving and creative solutions. You were so good at it. Now, all I saw was indecision and finger pointing

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
