Pros
Clean, safe work environment.
Good Benefits
Good Development Programs
Good Department Management
Cons
Poor Follow Through with Training Modules
Senior Management assumes associates are guilty without gather all facts
Lack of growth available as they bring people from outside the property
Advice to Senior Management
Follow through on training modules and apply to real world problems. Spend more time assessing situations and gathering facts rather than handing down disciplinary action without any real structure to help the associates learn from their mistakes. Remember to stop by and say thank you in your more high customer service volume areas. It means more than an incentive program that doesn't pay associates that much money for the amount of effort they put in.
Pros
Team atmosphere
Pay is good
Opportunity for growth
Cons
Hours can be long
Work Politics
Lack of communication between Management and employees
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate with other departments
Pros
The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center offers good benefits and really goes above and beyond to to put together company and employee events to build a strong close knit family of employees.
Cons
The salary and wage differences and treatment from senior management to other employee's is too polar leaving most employees earning below a livable wage for most cases unless your part of the management inner circle. The HR director is very biased and vindictive as to who and how one can advance with-in the company and other locations. She is not an advocate for employee's but more of an advocate for the bottom line and herself. The HR director and senior management are more concerned with how they come off to corporate and manipulating survey numbers then understanding the truth of their employee's satisfaction. This hotel has a very high turn around of employees for this reason.
Advice to Senior Management
Human resources should be an advocate for the employees and not her own interest and favorites. Get an HR director that is employee focused and stop some of the company events and parties to be able to re-apply the money toward allowing the employees to make a more livable wage.
Pros
Your day will be fast paced and certainly not boring. Problems and questions are different and a myriad of situations,
Cons
There is little room for growth and you may grow tired if you do not love the job. Pay is not too great.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote from within. Offer raises and / or bonuses. Promote education and training for a career rather than just a job.
Pros
Working in pleasant surroundings and management is polite and generally understanding.
Cons
sometimes shift work is required
Advice to Senior Management
Invest more in people
Pros
The Sheraton Hotel has fair wages and an excellent benefits package. People are treated as equals and are given many opportunities to expand their careers within the hotel.
Cons
The hours of operation can be a negative.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should continue to support their employees and give them the knowledge they need in order to perform their jobs at a superior level.
Pros
Alot of different hotels, employee discount, great sales trips, and kickoffs,
Cons
TONS of paperwork, no sense of empowerment, hotels needed more renovations, management could be downright brutal on an individual basis, if hotel is not performing well.
Advice to Senior Management
TRAIN your senior team. Better H/R policies put into place. An elitiest company, where only 20 percent are rewarded
Pros
Pro: Great Discounts when traveling
Pro: Decent "filler" job
Cons
Con: Hotel was poorly staffed
Advice to Senior Management
Don't expect great guest satisfaction survey results when there's not enough people working to adequately fulfill guest expectations.
Pros
Every employee within the hotel is empowered to make very big decisions about how to make guests' experience special without prior need to consult management. For example, it was not uncommon for stylists (maids) to give away expensive bottles of champagne when they overhear it's a guest's birthday, etc. It's a truly wonderful concept to get every employee involved (in every department) to make each guest's experience memorable! Coolest brand ever...
Cons
Insane hours for employees within management, but you could never complain because the directors put in more hours than everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand that managers burnout really fast when they work a MINIMUM of 65 hours per week. It's a major reason for attrition.
Pros
Flexible hours, very easy to pick and drop shifts
Good money (tips). Though sometimes inconsistent.
Strong management team.
Beautiful building
Cons
Poor benefits. Insurance is mediocre.
There is no paid parking. So be prepared to pay $10 per day
That is all.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work guys. I've never worked in a location with such friendly and helpful managers in my life.
