I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The people there are smart and really care about the company.

    Cons

Lots of growth over the last couple of years and now its important that the management systems catch up. Heroics typically needed to meet IT launch commitments which would not be necessary if all processes were documented and and there was rigor around enforcing compliance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Relying too much on contractors, especially given the little to no knowledge management at Starwood, means that there's no significant institutional memory. This inhibits Starwood from achieving a true environment of continuous improvement. Progress is made but the turnover means mistakes are repeated frequently because no one remembers the lessons learned previously.

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great American MNC culture, friendly co-workers, communal events

    Cons

Low starting pay, can be bureaucratic, might be stuck in corporate if bosses don't move

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

there are alot of brilliant people, but being appreciated over the internal network is not the same as having a team work on career progression, that's why many people are leaving because they don't see a future. i feel there is one, but it needs to be communicated transparently.

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Starwood has so much training and treats it's employees really well. The pay is high, and they hire the best of the best. I worked for multiple hotels and properties and found each one to be amazing. They really care about the guest and want to be the best through employee trainings and service, not cutting cost to show a better bottom line.

They have great intensive trips around the world.

Starwood really takes care of employees relocating them and trying to keep them with the company.

    Cons

In sales the teams can be cut throat competitive. Management let this happen. It is hospitality so the dress and industry is conservative. Starwood was the least out of all the brands however.
