Pros
Work with great co-workers. Great benefits- especially 401K match and health care plan. Relaxed environment where people are generally treated as adults. The subject matter of your work (movies, TV, entertainment) is interesting and at times even fun. Located in a newer, beautiful building with a gym and indoor raquetball courts. Some employees don't seem to appreciate what they have at Starz. This is a MUCH better environment than I've seen at other large corporations...
Cons
No real career- pathing. Company does not have a mission statement or real goals outlined. Due to no organizational charts, it's hard to know who to contact for what.
Pros
Great benefits, decent salary, interesting daily job content. Exciting industry to work in - convergence of new technology and opportunity to expand are appealing.
Cons
Poor interdepartmental communication, secretive management leading to distrust. zero training, mentorship or career development. Would rather layoff talented, driven employees than risk an HR battle over "lifers."
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in people who care about building a career, who want to work hard, be challenged, and contribute to group effort. When you care about your employees, they are happier and more productive. In turn, your company will be more successful.
Pros
Great pay and benefits, very nice location, most of the people working there are professional and courteous.
Cons
Abysmal training, extremely unfair treatment by immediate supervisor, no recourse from HR.
Advice to Senior Management
If a senior manager personally interviews and hires an employee only to throw them under the bus for "job performance issues" inside of 90 days, pay close attention to that manager's practices and ethics.
Pros
Great 401k, great people, laid back environment if you get the right management team
Cons
If you get with the wrong management team you're sunk, because HR backs up management 100%
Advice to Senior Management
Treat people fairly. Force managers to do 360-degree reviews. Deal with poor managers.
Pros
Good benefits, stays up with technology
Cons
no job growth or help with career plan.
Pros
Benefits are top-shelf, compensation is fair. By and large a relaxed environment to work in.
Cons
The company does not have a sound career progression plan for its employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest more in the career development of your employees.
Pros
Great flexibility and great benefits
Cons
Salary is not very competitive
Advice to Senior Management
Raising salary with promotion can be better.
Pros
The best people I've ever worked with... would take them with me to other jobs!
Cons
Lots of changes in direction of programming and branding over several years.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue marketing directly to consumers.
Pros
Perks are the best in the entertainment biz. Compensation more than average, 401K beyond excellent, health benefits very good, no micro managing, allowance for Starz Channel
Cons
Management sucks. HR is weak and management in general is really bad. Where did they find these execs? Half of them dont even come from solid worl experience background. There are some that are good but can count that on one hand.
Advice to Senior Management
Get well educated and well rounded employees. Get a HR team in place that lines up wuth the various divisions. HR is hands off.
Pros
Denver is a fabulous place to live; Starz offers good benefits; and it's a comfortable place to work if you aren't looking to be challenged.
Cons
Starz is very much a "business as usual" kind of place where experience, creativity, and drive are not rewarded. HR policies are peculiar and make it very difficult to move ahead. Top execs are uncommunicative and tolerate mismanagement and interdepartmental warfare.
Advice to Senior Management
Now, you are giving us the impresssion that you don't care and/or are afraid to take a risk. Give us a roadmap and hold people accountable for following it. Reach throughout the company to learn what's not working--then fix it.
