    Pros

Government benefits and doing civil work is rewarding.

No accountability for management and poor processes in place. Competent employees are expected to overcompensate for the incompetent ones that are difficult to fire because of union.

I have been working at State Bar CA

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance for an 8:45 AM - 5 PM job, M-F, closed weekends. Also the bar is looking to modernize many systems and tries its best to work on a relatively fixed revenues -- the best thing is that the bar is NOT a tax burden on the state as 100% of its revenues comes from its member attny annual fees.

    Cons

Too Much politics, old way of doing things, very paper-based, an organization run by attnys for attnys of course. Union environment for the bargaining unit: SEIU makes a manager's job more difficult in being flexible with its staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more accessible to all FTE staff and more engagement and responsible (project management-wise). Be less of a bully in certain departments and more of a true leader rather than a sr. manager who intimidates or makes threats.

I worked at State Bar CA

    Pros

Nice location near Embarcadero and nice view from the lunch room.

    Cons

Management are truly evil and entirely lack compassion for employees and the union to which all non-executive employees must belong is worthless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Expletives
