Pros
Educating clients and assisting them in their times of need felt really great when the customers appreciated what you were doing for them. I learned something new everday, insurance education is endless.
Cons
Clients think insurance is a garage sale or swap meet, some won't give you any personal information but expect for you to be able to quote them, they are unaware that it is state regulated. There are some rude people out there who hate insurance workers (even if they are the ones who contacted you for a quote). Clients don't care if you had to go to school and get licensed to handle insurance and have years of experience in the insurance industry, they always know everything about their insurance because of what their neighbor's claim consisted of, or what they heard from a friend, or some people think they have no deductible because some guy at a car wash told them that.
It's hard working for an agent within the first years of opening their business. Many of them change their procedures on a month to month basis which devistates employees' commissions and bonuses since they're not giving enough time for employees to master a new technique and really see if it helps sales.
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe better, more uniformed training within the State Farm departments? We would have to call service or underwriting a few times to get a correct answer for a question because the answers would always be conflicting even though there was actually only one correct answer.
Pros
--Good benefits
--Flexible schedules
--You can be coached and guided on how to gain a better position
--Discounts around town and on vacations
Cons
--They really push moving for a job, especially for a promotion
--The training of new reps and processors is poorly organized and executed
--The company as a whole is slow and cumbersome to change
Advice to Senior Management
--If you really want to collect the best talent, look to a like Chesapeake. The way they treat their employees is phenomenal.
--The consistent suggestions you get from your workforce should be taken to heart and responded to.
Pros
Wonderful people, work life balance, terrific benefits, friendly atmosphere, ability to daily help people, stability
Cons
Slow to make changes, too many chiefs
Advice to Senior Management
Rethink offering the same price point for products with and without an agent
Pros
there were good people in a clean environment.
Cons
very large organization making it difficult for it to move forward.
Advice to Senior Management
stay current
Pros
I got paid pretty well, nice perks. Most of the people were nice and willing to help you out. I got to travel and meet other interns all over the place. we worked on a project together and that was fun. great training
Cons
Besides the project, i didn't do much. i wish they let me do more besides making copies. i wanted to go to other agents' offices but i never got to :(. some people were too busy to pay attention to an intern.
Advice to Senior Management
as an intern, i wanted to learn about the business as much as possible. i wanted more things to do besides copying. please treat me like a full time employee
Pros
State Farm has been a successful company for many years and leads the country in auto and homeowner's insurance. Almost without fail, they pay their claims quickly and efficiently.
Cons
Team members are grossly underpaid and undervalued and most agents do not offer any health or retirement benefits. Advancement is non-existent unless you want to become an agent.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize the importance of team members who keep agencies functioning and encourage agents to pay accordingly.
Pros
benefits are amazing, great involvement in the community
Cons
number of employees, and beginning salaries are very low
Advice to Senior Management
-
Pros
Good retirement benefits, good training programs.
Cons
Currently going through unsettling changes to stay competitive in the marketplace. Employees are overworked and the company is behind in technology.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more proactive about addressing employees with performance issues. Nepotism runs rampart. Do a better job of keeping employees informed about the future of the company. Upper management sometimes appear to be out of touch with the challenges that the operations employees face such as heavy workloads, unrealistic expectations and working with slow, outdated computer technology.
Pros
If you work with SF, you can basically write yourself a ticket to work at any insurance company.
Cons
There are a lot of families in the company, so you have husbands, wives, children, etc. that aren't qualified for positions but are promoted
Pros
Regulated and quality driven work performance atmosphere . Numbers driven operation, policy organized . Must be flexible to work varied assignments and tasks.
Cons
Performance driven and numbers driven work environment . Somewhat rigid in regards to policy and procedures. Must be able to work within rigid guidelines.
Advice to Senior Management
provide training and more support by front line managers. Allow for learning curve and be able to provide specialized training.
