Pros
The benefits are great as well as the retirement 401K plan is pretty good. I have had positive experiences with my managers within my department.
Cons
But as I suspect with many large employers there is a big disconnect between upper level management and the people actually doing the work. There are way too many levels from the top down that would significantly simplify the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Simplify the organization and work to make it better for the employee. Focus more on the intellectual capital and retaining current employees to drive better performance. There are many quality employees that have worked for State Street, but many of them leave because it is difficult to feel like you have made a difference.
Pros
Company has grown consistently - even through the bad times.
Job security
Cons
Compensation packages are poor and do not really improve in line with responsibility of promotion.
Pros
benefits are good and a lot of paid time off
Cons
the pay is low and has been cut over the past few years
Pros
Access to state of the art technology platforms and support
Cons
Outsourcing too many departments started to impact the quality of the services provided
Advice to Senior Management
Massive process transformations are not always welcome across the company for specific operations cannot be blended and moved over to a different time zone/countries and should remain specific.
Pros
Laid back work environment, nice fitness center, and cafeteria on site. Good flexibility when things come up.Work Life balance is fine. People were generally friendly.
Cons
HORRIBLE PAY, its not accounting so if your an accountant coming out of school you really build no marketable skills. Its a cubicle farm.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay a living wage.
Pros
Great health benefits, paid time off, 401k matching up to 6%. My department is very supportive of work/life balance and working remotely from home.
Cons
Low pay, few chances to move up in the company, work is unsatisfying. Too many managers.
Advice to Senior Management
The management structure is too top heavy. The work in some departments is not evenly distributed among the groups within the department. Some are working a ton of overtime while others are trying to find stuff to do to fill their day. Instead of laying more people off, try moving those employees to departments where they are really needed.
Pros
Overall a good place to start- horrible place to stay
Cons
No room to grow, very low salary.
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees advanced warning of layoffs or pay decreases. Would be nice.
Pros
401K match, opportunities for advancement, many locations, interesting people, decent vacation time, overall not a bad place to work at.
Cons
I would like to see State Street pay more, especially at lower positions. Also, work to life balance could improve.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote better work to life balance and increase salary / bonuses so that people would enjoy themselves a bit more.
Pros
Great place to start out of college. I would suggest working in such a place for a year and getting what you can out of it and then moving on.
Cons
The software was way behind the times. While I was there the Sacramento office converted over to newer* software. You were able to process funds quicker but it was still like using MS Dos. Each screen had a several commands corresponding to a number. You just memorized the numbers and punched at the key board all day.
Advice to Senior Management
Train new employees thoroughly. Give meaning to the number punching. The videos are not that great of a tool for trying to continue to grow ones knowledge of the vast financial world.
Pros
Flexible working hours to suit personal needs
Cons
Remuneration less than market average
