Former Employee – worked at State of Arizona
Pros – Training - was probably the best place to work to get professional certifications. They were good about professional associations in yoru field, as well.
Cons – There is a lot of truth to the idea that state workers don't seem to want to work as hard. However, on the management side, that is where the hard work and dedicated people were.
Advice to Senior Management – The state needs to attract and retain good quality workers. They do this on the training side, but when an employee is ready to move up in the ranks, there are no opportunities. This needs to change.

Current Employee – been working at State of Arizona
Pros – Benefit packages are good and offer a variety of options. Premiums are good compared to private industry. Before the economy tanked, it was nearly impossible to lose your job.
Cons – Management is often appointed based on political favors, and may not know a thing about the agency he/she is put in charge of. There is little transparency. Because of the economy and a ridiculously right-wing, bible-thumping legislature, jobs are left at the whims of others.
Advice to Senior Management – Put leaders in place that have training, proven competency in their field, and a plan and vision. Discourage micromanaging.

Current Employee – been working at State of Arizona
Pros – You get to work with a variety of different social service agencies and have a chance to have a positive impact on peoples' lives
Cons – It's a very objective job where there is no right or wrong way to do things in any situation which makes the job rather ambiguous.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire people who are there for the well being of the families rather than those who are only concerned about their career progression.
