I have been working at State of Arizona full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I very much enjoy my job. The majority of my coworkers are enjoyable. The work is interesting. Advancement is encouraged. Training is available. The pay is competitive in most ways. The benefits are great.

    Cons

There are done people who have had their jobs for a long time and do not perform. It is not often that people who underperform or who are no longer qualified for their work receive any sort of corrective action.

I have been working at State of Arizona full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Some positions pay a livable wage - - most do not and are 25-40% less than private sector position.

    Cons

    No promotional system.
Favored few get pay raises while higher quality staff are discouraged to excel.
Training only provided if federal government pays for it.
Academic studies and hard data analysis are irrelevant. Only majority partisan views are valid - - forget the facts.
Management does not like personnel that are smarter than them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

View and reward personnel as assets.

I have been working at State of Arizona full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Paid holidays, vacation and sick days. Ability to telecommute. Access to state vehicle.

    Cons

Low pay & morale. No incentive to perform as there is no possibility of a pay raise. Your pay is decided by the state legislature, not by your performance review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-classify case manager positions to a higher pay scale. Reward good employees and use corrective action with poor employees.

I have been working at State of Arizona full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Co workers help make the work environment bearable.

    Cons

Management does not appreciate the talent and experience of their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since basically making all employees ... at will ... anyone can be fired at any time for no legitimate reason, often so management can bring in their 'friends' or 'relatives' who have little experience and/or talent to replace existing employees. Lowest moral I have ever experienced in 40+ years experience working as an IT Professional.
