I worked at State of Florida

    Pros

Like interacting with people. It is a medical clinic for low income, no insurance people. It makes you feel you are helping people.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the laws changed in our county. You must also be a medical assistant to be a medical receptionist. Unfortunately I am not a medical assistant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a terrific clinic to work in. You get a chance to help low income, underprivileged people. This is strictly a non-profit clinic. Everyone who works their donates their time.

I have been working at State of Florida full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are excellent with low co-payments and premiums. You get to work with a great group of professionals and meet a great deal of business leaders.

    Cons

Low pay and no accountability from management. A lot of lip service and no action. Raises are few and very difficult to obtain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a living wage to employees and you might be able to retain qualified individuals that remain happy and work hard to surpass performance goals.

I have been working at State of Florida (more than an year)

    Pros

You'll get a deep understanding of rules and regulations of Welfare Administration. Improved data entry skills. Healthcare coverage and pension at an affordable price.

    Cons

High expectations by administration. High daily quota imposed. High turn around. Can't keep employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Downgrade daily quota. Constant high stress make sick employees and sick employees become absent employees.

I have been working at State of Florida full-time

    Pros

Very good benefits. Dealing with the public. Providing a service to the public.

    Cons

No opportunities to advance and limited opportunities to transfer. Some supervisors have a personal agenda and have little regard for their job descriptions (major politics played). No overtime pay is allowed; you work for extra comp time. At the mercy of the legislature (state job). Pay is just okay and not competitive.

I worked at State of Florida full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Eight to five work schedule that allows individual to balance work and personal life. Excellent benefits that are tough to find int he private sector. Job is designed primarily for an individual who does not enjoy frequent interaction with people, but rather analyzing data on a computer and verifying rates. Job security is extremely good.

    Cons

Hold put on raises. Many of the starting salaries were not competitive with the private sector.

I worked at State of Florida full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Very good health benefits offered

    Cons

Some of the management truly don't act like they care about their employees. It is a what have you done for me lately mentality attached to your value.
Pay is ridiculously low for the work being done.

    Pros

The work is very interesting and challenging. Benefits are great.

    Cons

Jobs vary, some are excellent, some are very poor. Pay very low, not competitive. Raises virtually non-existent. Favoritism rampant. Education and experience sometimes ignored in favor non-objective criteria. Most of the employees enjoy their work, but cannot earn a fair wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
