    Pros

Informal environment, If you are good, you can earn a good name pretty quick and come up. Can get work done pretty quick as it is an informal environment. Not much protocols. Excellent work life balance. Excellent benefits. Flexible with work and hours. Great work culture and people are very good at work and understanding.

    Cons

Not a great looking place. Although benefits are good, the salary is not very high and does not match how much you work.

I have been working at State of Illinois full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues! I'm surrounded by friendly knowledgeable hard-working IT professionals who do excellent work and understand best practices for their areas of expertise.

    Cons

Our data center is the "red-headed stepchild" in Illinois state government. People who retire or leave are not replaced. Those of us who remain are continually assigned to take on additional responsibilities. It's difficult for us to implement best practices and standards for IT initiatives that we know will benefit the state without the necessary resources and support from our director and the governor's office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Our new governor needs to listen to recommendations from his own IT professionals who work in the trenches and make staffing the state data center a priority so we can establish and enforce IT standards for the benefit of all state agencies.
