    Pros

Good benefits. Unusual mandatory unionization of all workers including most professional staff resulted in limiting number of actual hours worked/week.

    Cons

General support departments seemed understaffed or disorganized (HR, IT, etc). Siloed organizationally, Low technical competence and no culture of online collaboration and info sharing. Overall lack of accountability and quantifiable metrics.

    Pros

Rock solid job security, regular raises, generous benefit package, on-going training opportunities, small enough that you can know everyone in your department

    Cons

Limited room for advancement in a low population state, unless you are willing to move to the state capital. Supervision is sometimes lax.

    Advice to Management

Basically, keep up the good work. The mix of duties in the local offices keeps the job from getting stale.

    Excellent health benefits
    Lots of paid holidays

    Union
    May have flexible hours

    Cons

What can I say - it's State Government! A good manager makes all the difference

    Advice to Management

Talk to your staff - I mean the ones all the way at the "front lines!" They're doing the work that you're trying to manage.

    Pros

The benefits and time off policies are good. The longer you remain with the state, the more time of you accrue. The salary, while not competitive with large metropolitan areas, is good for region.

    Cons

The salaries could be better. Political pressure make is way to employees and detracts from the job. For example, the timesheet process requires me to enter all overtime on 3 separate forms. The union is weak and doesn't help employees

    Advice to Management

Hire good people and stay out of their way

  9. Confusion and inefficiency runs rampant.

    Pros

You will have no problem keeping your job and/or making lateral moves around the company.

    Cons

Getting training, clear answers to questions, and understanding how to be productive will be your biggest challenges.

    Advice to Management

For the love of god have those doing the work do the training for new employees.

    Pros

Upper management when its good, its GREAT. Good benefits very quickly after sign on, including domestic partnership insurance. Good locations to work.

    Cons

Not enough employees to handle the job flow, HIGH stress and a lot of bureaucracy. A lot of recent turnover shows how its going downhill fast and their changes aren't implemented fast enough. Those who are there 15+ yrs are happy , the turnover with less than 5 yrs service is almost 100%. It simply doesnt pay enough for the job responsibility.

    Advice to Management

There's good, fast and cheap and you can only get 2 of the 3. They hire fast and cheap, but they aren't good and it hurts them a LOT.

    Pros

Great benefits, and for the most part, great people to work with.

    Cons

Some dead wood due to union rules, which makes it hard to fire useless people.
