Pros
Very laid back
fun to interact with customers
coworkers are friendly, help you as necessary
your assignments aren't too hard
Cons
On some days it seems as though the day drags on but it always depends on your hours and when you work
Pros
The job pays more than minimum wage with raises given based on the amount of hours you work. I currently get a 20 cent raise for every 520 hours I work. The work hours are flexible.Benefits.
Cons
It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a career don't work at stater bros. If you are looking for a job while you go to college ( like myself ) then the job is great. The cons I can think of is that the raises are far and few in between. You will end up working with people who get paid nearly triple what you make doing the same work, but because they've been there longer they managed to get their pay up. I see a lot of people who probably could have done more with their life but instead chose stater bros. because of the small wage increases and the health care incentives offered. Stater bros. can literally consume your life while you chase the two salaried positions in the store ( store manager and assistant store manager ), who actually get paid quite well ( 100k ), but very few people make it that high. Go to school and find a better job.
Advice to Senior Management
The management at Stater Bros. ( store manager and assistant store manager ) tend to play favorites, but that is like any other organization. My managers seem to work pretty hard so kudos to them.
Pros
Health Benefits
Double time on holidays was nice.
Senior Management was competent and usually willing to listen to issues from employees.
Raise every 550 hours.
Cons
CSR's and middle management hard to deal with at times.
Making $10 an hour while people doing the same job as you are making $20 can lower morale.
Union dues are pretty steep.
Getting holidays off is pretty much not going to happen.
Advice to Senior Management
I worked at Stater Bros. for 6 years while in high school and college and while stressful it was a great first job. I loved my upper management and while strict, they got the job done. The only issues I had were the key carriers and CSRs, they was a lot of promotion by favoritism and most times they were either power hungry or just didn't care at all.
Pros
Great benefits and a union for support, Management is understanding, Good company, Plenty of employees in various departments takes stress off work you have, Job duties rarely require you to meet "impossible" requirements or exceed expectation, Can be hard work but not hard to do, Job safety for both long-term employment and workplace health, promotions are (to an extent), pay (also check cons)
Cons
Lack of hours and full-time position, pay for the positions you move to slowly increases over time making the promotions stressful at first, Management does not have an increase in pay, Management can be a bit harsh at times, in-store training doesn't seem priority
Advice to Senior Management
Give more incentive for harder workers to move up, more in depth in-store training for employees, Help employees help you
Pros
-Good Benefits
-Management works well with R/Os and vacation requests
Cons
-Promotions are given on who is friends with who
-Management can be ridiculously mean for no reason, just having a bad day
-No position is any better than another, promotions seem to give even more work with barely any more pay
-Rude high school kids and even ruder adults are often working around you
-A lot of "busy work" is given
-A lot of talking around the registers between employees, meaning a lot of gossip
Advice to Senior Management
Management should be nicer to the employees. No one wants to come to work to get belittled and talked down to. They should act more professional and should not spread gossip around.
Pros
Easy to get in, health benefits, unionized, stable job where you are unlikely to get fired, steady hours that were consistent.
Cons
Not paid nearly enough, understaffed and overworked, union takes way too much money, must work 24 hours minimum even if you're going to school. Management is fear based.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop trying to threaten people with the recession, communication needs some serious work, and put on more staff so all of us don't have to be horribly overworked.
Pros
Paid vacation, benefits, management works with school schedule, great job for student, union job, very organized work environment.
Cons
Must be willing to work closing shifts, weekends and holidays. Coworkers are too negative (you must think positive). In honesty hard workers don't get the better shifts.
Advice to Senior Management
Please give the hard workers better and earlier shifts (especially on weekends). AND GET THE LAZY PEOPLE IN TROUBLE.
Pros
Clean store, friendly staff, many customers were regulars and you got to know people that came in all the time.
Cons
Required a lot of sweeping and other cleaning that at times seemed unnessary. Also, the staff sometimes were hard to talk to as they were to stressed.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to relate to your employees more and treat them like people instead of just a number and not a human.
Pros
profesional organized clean always somthing to do
Cons
rude management, lots of moody high school kids
Advice to Senior Management
get off your high horses.
Pros
-Open to schedule changes
-Very Professional
-Employee Community
-Constant Employee Evaluation
-No fuss, very direct management
-Everyone is very real and friendly
Cons
-Harsh, biting management that often take sides
-Uniform way too professional for a grocery store
-Lack of communication between managers and employees
-Little to no positive reinforcement or compliments
-The Union takes literally 1/4 of the paycheck
-Pay raise is ridiculously slow; seniority
-Too much work, little pay
Advice to Senior Management
Form relationships with your employees, make sure they know you know they're doing a great job and are appreciated for it. Loosen up.
