    Pros

    Free paper hat!
Starting pay around $9.00 for production $5.00 for servers.
Easy to learn various jobs around the kitchen and service area.

    Cons

    Horrible management
    Disgusting conditions
    Aggressive Coworkers
    "Raises" don't actually happen
Most co-workers are intoxicated at all times
Meal discount is 40% off, no free meals and discounts only apply while working

    Advice to Management

I recommend that the management require routine drug screens, conduct actual background checks, and enforce the cleaning standards. Lying about raises that are not reflected on paystubs should also be avoided.

    Pros

Easy enough to manage this quick serve restaurant. Ready to learn the daily operations? You don't need much experience or brains really. Just show up and you can catch on quick.

    Cons

Poor upper management. This place is very busy and they expect you to run the store and help where needed due to their lack of proper staffing. I've never seen anything like it and I've been in the industry my entire career of 30yrs+

    Advice to Management

Pay the managers! We run your store with your terrible labor plan, pay your managers! It's a disgrace what you expect when paying so little. Managers are supposed to manage, not run positions.

    Pros

    Cons

The other employees are very hostile towards new employees. I've been insulted and even threatened within earshot of the manager on duty.

    Advice to Management

For Mount Vernon IL Steak n Shake, I strongly suggest reevaluating the employees you hire, how they treat other employees, and taking care of a problem between employees that may occur.

    Pros

Each of the individual kitchen positions are easy to learn due to small menue

    Cons

Always grossly understaffed! Pay to crew members is rediculusly low so rarely does a good hire stay longer than a month due to the tremendous amount of work that is shoved on them due to being short staffed. Managers and general managers are burned out from too much work, always filling the positions of crew members, trainers and be held responsible for customer service, health and safety, and profitability. Its not normal food and beverage stresses. Its salaried employee abuse and many eventually decide that it is not worth it because even the bonus plan is prohibative.

    Advice to Management

Redeveop the bonus plan to reflect the work environment. Make it simple and attainable

    Pros

Working together to help the guests enjoy their restaurant experience. It is very rewarding to hear words of praise for excellent service, value for the price, improvements over the past, etc.

    Cons

Employee attendance and tardiness continues to be a problem. Employees call off or come in to work late on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to hire more employees and release the employees with attendance and tardiness problems. Employees do not fear repercussions because they know there is no one to take their place.
