I have been working at Stephen F. Austin University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get the holidays off that the university has off, and bosses are usually lenient with time off for studying or other student related things.

    Cons

Usually no room for a pay raise (only some of the departments will give one).
There is no "official" sick or vacation time so it's solely something to work out with your supervisor.

I worked at Stephen F. Austin University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you like alot of days off/holidays as opposed to corporate employment, then you'll like that feature.

    Cons

SFASU closes for Christmas and makes it mandatory for employess to use some of their own time to cover the absence, since the State of Texas only allows a certain number of free holidays. SFASU schedules holidays in excess of this, and makes the employees utilize their accumulated leave time to cover the excess days off. So basically you get told when and where to use your leave. Is that really leave time????

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There really is some credence to the saying "promoted to the level of incompetence" I learned what that meant while working at SFASU. There also should be some oversight in the hiring process other than the human resources compensation and classification unit prior to the Board of Regents signing off on the positions. There are positions at SFASU that are full-time paid positions that maybe have 20 hours worth of work to do each week, maybe even less than that, and yes, all those positions are reviewed by HR before they are created. There is incredible waste going on there and not just with salaries.
