I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This company offers wonderful benefits. Above and beyond mere health insurance. There is a culture aspect which also inspires the employees to make a difference in their communities which is awesome.

    Cons

The pay for this particular job is a poverty wage. It is not enough to support even two people, much less a family. Sure, with the benefits included in the pay, it could be considered more, but flat pay, w/o benefits, there is a struggle. Also, forget about time off. This is an answering service. We answer phones for businesses 24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are NEVER closed. You WILL work holidays. Including Christmas. You will NOT work a 9-5 M-F shift b/c in our world, that shift doesn't exist. So, expect nights, early mornings, and weekends to be working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Regularly scheduled breaks, including 30 mins-1 hour lunches would be appreciated. Downtime between never-ending calls is a good thing for morale.

    Pros

Decent pay, awesome co-workers, weekends off, management works with you if you need time off. Overtime available. Fair benefits.

    Cons

No upward mobility. Too many lifers in management. Management not always on top of day to day operations. Obvious favoritism toward certain employees. Some safety issues not being addressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address safety concerns. Be more aware of routing and over building of certain routes.

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Likely the best business I will ever work in (i.e., based of the industry they are in).

    Cons

Way, way, way too much promote by favoritism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Peel the onion back and discover the leaders you have appointed/promoted based on favoritism. You will discover that they are really and truly not engaged. They are saying what you want to hear to your face and lying behind your back. Many of your higher level managers in Northbrook and Lake Forest are not who you think they are. And, regardless of how much you want to ignore it, the culture was better before you decided to have a Culture Initiative team. People and manage cared way more. Just sayin.

I worked at Stericycle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Mostly good, hard working people.

    Cons

Too many Sr. VPs now. If you don't agree with the culture crew, you better keep your mouth closed or you'll lose your job. Company used to really promote open door, but now you are viewed as negative if you have a different opinion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO should seek feedback from a level or two down from his direct reports, and make it OK for folks to be honest.

I have been working at Stericycle

    Pros

IT has good benefits package - 401K, medical insurance, etc. Good, helpful people in the company, who are easy to work with.

    Cons

No transparency in the company. Hard to understand corporate structure, not easy to know or access people across the company. This limits growth opportunities.

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Financial performance and growth of company has historically been strong

    Cons

They don't care about the people. HR is BAD and should not be trusted. From the leader with no HR experience on down. The good people have left or are actively looking. They don't want open communication and will retaliate if you speak up. The culture initiative is a joke.
I would not recommend making this a career stop. Yes there are allot of job opening but that is because people are leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your HR team and start over by bring someone in with external experience. You now have too many levels and everyone is a VP even if they have no experience. If you got someone with true HR experience you could significantly drive down your salary cost.

I worked at Stericycle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Able to work from home.

    Cons

Omaha, NE location is POORLY managed. There is no staff appreciation. The nurses are told to go off of QUANTITY, not QUALITY. All you hear about is making $$$$$. Very unsafe and the liability is HIGH! Poor communication and when you do try to communicate an issue, they just sweep it under the rug and tell you to shut up.

I worked at Stericycle full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The best part of this job was mainly the people. The people are all really laid back and helpful. The people are the reason why you would even want to come into work. Also had decent benefits.

    Cons

The lack of training and transparency. One the call center end, they always had new accounts opening and barely trained the employees. It was like being tossed into a dark road with no sense of direction. Then to make it worst, management would have the audacity to get upset if you made a mistake. The tasks are simple, but it is a lot. For everything being done, making 10.00 an hour is not enough and would never be. And to make it worse, they do not even follow their own core values. In fact, they gladly accept business from shady companies, which produces stressful situations when their client's customers call in and rant about the poor business "our" company does. The problem is that we represented companies who were clearly only out to profit and cared nothing about their customers, just like Stericycle care only about a dollar and not their employees. There was also no room for growth or promotions. People have been working there for six years and were still making their starting pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees when they stress needs and wanting help. Don't just say "we care about our employees", actually show it. Train properly. Consider your client accounts before taking them. Think about more than just making a dollar. Or just stick to medical waste.

    Pros

Consistent work. Nowhere to go in the company, you have to know somebody who knows somebody to advance.

    Cons

Management knows nothing about being a good manager. They don't care about you or your family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about who makes your money and treat them better.
