Pros
Very good training, great benefits!
Cons
Really bad pay, for lots of reprehensibility!
Advice to Senior Management
Offer fair rate of pay!
Pros
Easy to move up in the company if you perform.
Since there is so many stores very easy to transfer when needed.
With the right store you can make a lot money.
Cons
As a manager the minimum number of hours are 48 every week. During holidays you will work between 65 and 80 hours. Like most companies never enough payroll to cover. Which means the manager must be pickup the extra hours.
Advice to Senior Management
The incentive trips are not enough to cover for the low pay.
Pros
Full time work with decent benefits. Decent environment. Good chance for promotions. Opportunities to take jewelry courses to learn more skills and be promoted.
Cons
I think Steling Corperation has a lot of good people but I worked in a shop that had ongoing issues that were being dealt with but not nearly enough. We had one person who was poisoning the atmosphere with his attitude. He did not seem to care about the quality of his work at all, and his various moods set the tone of the shop. If he was criticized for poor workmanship he would just
make things worse and/or he would not speak. He would give new people the wrong answers to questions regarding work on purpose, then deny that he did it. If we got a jeweler who was good he would become petulant. He spoke back to the shop manager in ways that were wholly inappropriate and he ruined the working atmosphere in the shop. Management tried to deal with him but not enough so that it registered with him to make a difference. He wrecked the notion of teamwork. I liked and respected most of the people I worked with, but that one person really ruined it for me. Also, the store manager was a hot head who thinks he can take his frustrations out on anyone he wants in any manner he happens to feel like at whatever moment.
Advice to Senior Management
Please pay closer attention to what is going on within the ranks. And please listen when employees try to express concerns. In the case of where I worked, one persons bad performance was effecting us all; not just in the shop but on the floor as well because this person was completely unreliable.
Pros
plenty of benefits
good money
commission is nice when business is good
opportunity for advancement
amazing discount
hourly pay if better than most retail
Cons
If you aren't aggressive you will not make it far in the company. Sometimes you might feel like you are being forced to force people to buy.
Advice to Senior Management
Very satisfied with the company in a whole, I do love my job. However, I wish it wasn't so competitive at times.
Pros
Good selling atmosphere and great customers
Cons
no care for your quality of life, not enough recognition for your hard work
Advice to Senior Management
care about your employees and stop worrying about yourself
Pros
Good product diversity. Excellent employee discount. You get to wear a suit and tie. Hearing people's stories and getting to know customers.
Cons
No accountability for dishonest sales tactics. Technologically somewhere around 1990. Management brags about being well in the black for over eight years but raises are very difficult to get and they make no effort to update the retail environments. Only advancement options are if you are willing to move to Akron, OH.
Advice to Senior Management
It is the responsibility of the number one retailer in any industry to innovate, or you will not stay number one. Consolidate or diversify the ten regional brands so they are more than just 'Kay lite'.
Pros
they promote from within, largest jewelry chain, great training tools.
Cons
tight with money for raises
Pros
commission is good sometimes depending on how well the whole team does
Cons
hours, pay, training, goals are sometimes very unreasonable
Advice to Senior Management
Offer better hours and better salary. Offer the opportunity to promote associates more so in the company rather than outside.
Pros
pay and work ethic job advancement
Cons
long hours very demanding lost touch with daily operations
Advice to Senior Management
work better between divisions
Pros
good training. that is about it
Cons
Everything! The supervisor is all about herself and not her team.
