think TWICE before joining this company...not unless you enjoy being OVERworked & UNDERpaid, with bunions on your feet!

I worked at Steven Madden full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

GREAT discount (50%) and a free pair of shoes seasonally, however the selection for female employees is substantially better than the selection for male employees, unfortunately.

    Cons

This company treats it's customers better than it's own employees, and is very cheap. there's no reason why a crew member at chick-fil-a makes more than a manager at steve madden (tfactual story, due to personal experience). This company is NOTORIOUS for over hiring staff members, then, because of overstaffing asking you to relocate, or continually write you up due to missed sales goals, when..hello?! you cant sell to customers that arent walking through the door! also, steve madden's shoes are ridiculously narrow cut and extremely PAINFUL, i worked at a philadelphia location store and not one, not some, but...EVERY female employee had damaged feet due to the shoes (corns, bunions..etc) a few male employees had to actually purchase a new pair of shoes during their shift, due to their heels bleeding! This company also has very outdated software, which makes it not ideal for customers who want to do things like place an order for an out of stock item. There is no real advancement within the company unless you kiss butt, or you're being used as a space holder until someone else is hired for the same position you were already offered. take it from me, please think TWICE before deciding to join this company...not unless you enjoy being overworked, underpaid, and expendable, with bunions on your feet, and a subpar paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of brown nosing for a higher position, speak up about the unfair and nonsensical working conditions and lack of ethics.

    Pros

The perks for employees discount would be the discount which is 50% off and having access to merchandise that aren't held in any other store. Working on Bleecker Street gives to perks to the neighborhood discount with other retail stores.

    Cons

The cons are there is much growth within the company. You work every Saturday which is required of the management team until taken off which falls under you time off. Great thing to take from working here is the push it gives you. You learn how to manage quickly as well as being more direct.

    Pros

They do give younger people management opportunities

    Cons

You will be treated with A LOT of disrespect, especially if you work in any NY locations where higher up management visit often! I never felt supported if there was something that went wrong, its just blame, scream & pass the buck....company motto maybe? If you can handle the harshness there is some opportunity to advance without a college degree but be prepared they chew through people & when they are done with you they'll have no problem with spitting you right out!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care, listen...be a normal company....stop using the F word at your employees!!

    Pros

Wish I could think of one...sorry can't lie and make one up

    Cons

These shoes are all badly made knockoffs...if you accept a design job you will question your tittle and watch creativity go out the window

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice. The fashion elite/evil do not listen to any advice...this is the reason for my warning.

    Pros

The discount was the best part. All of my shoes are from here. Chances are you'll make some great friends that you work with and customers. You can really network with the people that come in.

    Cons

If you plan on trying to move up in this company, it's impossible. You won't get promoted unless they open new stores or someones quits and the managers now will never leave. This job is their life. Hours sucked, especially during the holidays but what do you expect when you work in a mall? Customers can be rude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take your job too seriously. Do but don't. Have some fun.
