Stew Leonard Jr.
Current Employee – been working at Stew Leonard's full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – This is one of the best companies in the area you can work for if you don't have a college education. Great benefits, vacation really adds up over the years. You can make a decent living. Friendly people.
Cons – Stew's loses it's luster if you're college educated and career orientated. The company used to have upward mobility but new management came in 6 or 7 years ago and he really tightened things. More is expected from you, and pay increases are minimal. Even if you take on more and more responsibility, your pay plateaus. After over 15 years, I realized there was nothing more for me there if I really wanted to move up in the world. Also youre expected to work holidays and often weekends, but what can you do? Its retail.
Advice to Senior Management – None really... I don't expect them to start increasing salaries, it is what it is with alot of competition around in the industry.

Former Employee – worked at Stew Leonard's part-time for more than a year
Pros – hired me when no one else would give me the chance
nice store managers
learned some cool skills
got paid 8.50 hr to start out
if you're a student they accomadate your school schedule
Cons – have to wait a year for a raise and then they dont give you what you deserve
favoritism is ALL OVER
my supervisor and team leader saw that I wasn't happy and i told them other team members were treating me bad and they did nothing
i asked for a transfer (4 months before i quit) because i didn't want to leave my job and i wasnt given one
i felt like they treat people differently depending on their race and the only way you can get ahead is if you adopt the same ideals
the customer is always right even if they disrespect you on a personal level
two department meetings while i was there for a year and 3 months and afterwards nothing was done about the problems discussed
Advice to Senior Management – listen to and appreciate your employees concerns please, otherwise you'll lose a lot of good ones
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at Stew Leonard's part-time for more than a year
Pros – Great benefits
Awesome upper management
Technologically Advanced-Great POS System
Very flexible in terms of scheduling/work schedule (worked while in college)
Very manageable work load
Crazy Wine training/instruction/classes
Cons – Somewhat of a seperation between upper management and individual store management (I worked at stew leonards wine shop, NOT the food market). Ultimately this led to me leaving. My only con.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper management needs to bridge the gap that exists between corporate and it's wine shops. They are very hands on, however I feel as though they put the wrong people in charge. When they aren't around, head store manager tends to feel too much pressure, which inevitable trickles down to shift managers and merchandisers (stock boys.)
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Stew Leonard's part-time for less than a year
Pros – Always Busy and long reaks
Close to my house
some great supervisors
some horrible supervisors
Cons – They wrote me up for being 3 minutes early on my break
gave me full time hours when i was part time
they lied about time off
hard to switch days with other employes
Advice to Senior Management – tell the truth and watch the hours and don't write up good employees for silly reasons

Former Employee – worked at Stew Leonard's
Pros – If you are a student like I was Stews is very flexible. They treat their employees well. I loved the extra things we had such as company picnics, bbqs, the company baseball team and company basketball team. Very friendly environment. A large company with a small company feel. The owners constantly shop there and are around and friendly.
Cons – No employee discount. Played games when it came time to give out raises. Didn't always have baggers during busy times.
Advice to Senior Management – For the most part I would say keep up what you are doing. I worked at Stews doing my senior year of High School and I enjoyed it. It was a fun learning experience.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at Stew Leonard's
Pros – The people that work there are pretty cool. Most of the cashiers are college-age. There's always something to do if you like to stay busy. It's a pretty upbeat environment
Cons – They will fire you for the smallest mistakes. The compensation is low and they find little things about your performance to use as an excuse to not give you a raise. Part-time and seasonal get no benefits. They'll give as much hours as possible without making you full-time.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't be so strict on little things such as minor uniform violations. Increase the benefits for part-time and seasonal employees.
