    Pros

For the most part, nice folks working there, sport staff is collaborative in its efforts.

    Cons

    - Environment full of toxicity
    - Very authoritarian management style - our way or the highway
    - Empty promises, misleading expectations
    - If you're not a lawyer there, you count for pretty much nothing
    - Keep far away if you want to maintain your sanity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes very wide! There's a very good reason turnover is so high at Stikeman.

    Pros

The staff make it a great experience for a high stress job.

    Cons

Work-life balance is horrible for staff members and I was underpaid, making only 30% of my fields average salary even after years of experience. Salary readjustment requests were denied on a yearly basis. You're expected to work from home at no extra pay.

Since this is such a big law firm, employees live in constant fear of voicing their opinions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A happy worker is a good worker, listen to your employees. Stop trying to find excuses when addressing concerns and try actually taking action towards a solution.

I have been working at Stikeman Elliot LLP full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Access to modern technology in some areas, resume booster for those outside the legal arena.

    Cons

Very stingy with staff compensation. Years pass with no raises, advancement, improvement or respect. Downsizing so work overload falls on those remaining. Toxic work environment. Too driven in gaining bragging rights that they are one of the Top 50 Best Employers but provide no rewards or compensation. Makes you question the validity of these surveys and who is filling them out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All employees deserve respect and compensation for their hard work. Appreciate an employee's long term loyal service. The financial quality of life for staff has gone extremely downhill. A 1% raise may not seem significant to upper management so you've done away with it, but to staff, it's a small token that we worked hard for 12 long months to get. And most haven't even been getting that 1% for years. Hmmm, but we work for one of the Top 50...

I worked at Stikeman Elliot LLP full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - the support structure of a large law firm
    - job mobility

    Cons

    - cheap (instead of hiring someone to do a specific job they offloaded it on me for months with no regard to my workload)
    - more concerned with appearances than actually fostering a positive work environment (In order to be rated one of Canada/GTA's Best Employers HR would e-mail employees multiple times a day to fill out a survey)
    - if you aren't a senior lawyer don't expect to be treated with much respect

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on treating ALL employees with respect.

    Pros

None. Well, maybe a resume booster ... but that cachet is failing.

    Cons

    Everything. Very toxic work enviroment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why hire associates if you treat them like delivery people?
