Pros
Stock is an industry leader and provides opportunities for skilled, creative people who are looking to be successful in the residential building industry.
Cons
This is a cyclical industry that is highly competitive and can present many high cost risks and challenges to diversification that benefit customers and stake holders.
Pros
Right now, very few. It's all aorund how the business is going. When housing is booming, it's a great place to work. When it's down, so is morale & long term opportunity.
Cons
Inability of the company to effect the key driver of it's business (housing starts). There's nothing they can do about it, and it has total bearing around their ability to compete, offer opportunity to employees, and be a stable organization.
Advice to Senior Management
You have too much mgmt for the current business structure. Total employees have been reduced by nearly 90%, but VP titles (or above) are only down 1. Same is true at the operations. Too many chiefs, probably about the right amount of indians.
Pros
Trained personnel in their computer system. Provided staff training and information regarding changes and improvements. Looked for associates to take advantage of online training.
Cons
Changes are frequent and you need to be flexible and adaptable to keep up with the updates. It is sometimes hard to get everyone on the same sheet.
Pros
good management for starting out in 09 good team work, peopled cared, good pay ,gas card, easy to get time off
Cons
got real tuff when the lay offs started in 09 , a lot of locations closed , loast a lot of good folks
Advice to Senior Management
bring back the stock way in full , it was not that bad to use , made people accountable for what they did or did not do
Pros
The money is decent. (For some)
Cons
The folks making the desicions have no interest or compasion for the hard working folks that they employ.
The feeling is that the doors will soon be forever closed.
"Get out if you can" attitude.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the boots on the ground. Put more emphasis on the underpaid support staff and less on the over paid Sales Staff/ Management. Some are worth, most are not. There has to be a balance.
Pros
It is a large company with good benefits, room for advancement, and it is a casual atmosphere. Decent place to work.
Cons
I believe it was mismanaged with too many managers and not enough associates. They did not concentrate on perfecting the things they were involved in before expanding into other product lines.
Advice to Senior Management
There were too many managers and not enough associates. Management needed to concentrate on perfecting the things they were involved in before expanding into other product lines
Pros
The people were great.
Low turnover
Monthly meetings providing a link of communication between management and associates.
Standard Operating Procedure oriented.
Structured
Cons
Was a public company which made the dollar almighty and brought in Sarbans Oxley.
Sales team and operations/production team were seperate entities and lacked communication.
Inconsistency of management between business units.
Pros
Fast paced. Fun people I enjoyed working here.
Cons
Fair to poor equipment. Older, worn out trucks need to be replaced.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with your employees. When the economy is in the tank, don't tell everyone "We'll still be here." Be honest and tell people to be prepared
Pros
Good People, Monday -Friday 8-5
Cons
Market Sucks, Salaried employees are taken advantage of
Advice to Senior Management
Ask for employee feedback
Pros
Family enviroment and that include the good and bad families.
Cons
Company has a focus ...However the people or employees needed to implement the plan have been dismissed through closings or downsizing.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more people that have knowledge of the industry..... Mostly your former employees that dedicated most of their lives and careers to this company.
