I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible Scheduling, Union Backing, Holidays, Sunday overtime, Paid vacation, The Union really has your back making it hard for stop and shop to get rid of you as long as you do the work you should be fine

    Cons

Working weekends, Slow nights, very small wage increases, not a real a viable career path other than moving into management

    Advice to Management

Offer more competitive pay for part time employees but overall a really great company to work for.

I have been working at Stop & Shop (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sunday & holiday over time pay along with sick days: healthy workers is important. Providing donations Local and regional nonprofits in communities (philanthropy a value I support) and some work/life balance. As for people who are considering this place: pick a department that you would like to advance in.

    Cons

Rank takes precedence over individual desire and motivation along with ability. Most locations over hire. Not enough people try to prevent shrink.

    Advice to Management

Every associate should be shown ways to reduce shrink (aka-TOTAL LOSS) here's how YOU can give incentive: reduced sales means a cut in EVERYONES hours, including them. Groom associates that have desire and willingness to learn. Department switches should never be taken personal. Some people can't take working in tight quarters ( front end, for example)

I have been working at Stop & Shop full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company offers good benefits and paid time off. There is not much good to say about this company.

    Cons

Managing union employees is extremely difficult and challenging. Senior management does not support store management teams, and the HR team is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Get organized. Stop trying to fix the broken, and provide your people opportunities to grow. A piece of paper saying you career about someone's career means nothing to us.

  6. Good Flexability but Terrible Company!

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours. Union. Time and half on Sundays.

    Cons

Company does not care about employees at all! Some customers are nice but there are a lot of rude, mean customers. Managers are miserable, their managers are miserable, and they make everyone miserable. Little appreciation for hard work. Too much to do with too few staff and too little time.

    Pros

Short Shifts. Easy to make close acquaintances while working there. Promotions from within.

    Cons

Occasional upset customer. Recommended to be a people person.

    Advice to Management

We're trying hard. Don't bring down the hammer on employees. The customer isn't always right.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy work, easy to get along with people in the deli. You just have to slice meat all day. Also more money than cashiers.

    Cons

Potentially slicing your finger open is a con, but you get paid more for it. Also, you stink after work.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing, although deli could use higher wages. Wage disparity from older coworkers in the business can be annoying.
