I have been working at Stop & Shop

    Pros

The hours are long and repetitive the union blows but for a part time gig its not bad

    Cons

The union protect the slugs who don't do anything as a part timer you are expected to do your work plus the work of the full timers cause they don't do anything but complain about how the part timers suck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the union and hire more help to give better customer service that you currently are giving to the consumer

Former Employee - Front End Cashier/Customer Service Clerk in North Reading, MA

I worked at Stop & Shop

    Pros

The hours are flexible enough and you get paid for major holidays. Work itself is mindless once you learn your position.

    Cons

The union. Unnecessary to take money out of my pay check each week just in case I need someone to defend my job. My actions themselves should defend my job.

Disregard for human life. I understand it is retail, but if driving conditions are not safe for the rest of the state than why should employees put their lives at risk to sell $3 worth of eggs.

Greedy. Corporate has no clue what's going on a retail level and sets unrealistic expectations for store managers to hit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on work/life balance. Set realistic goals with each department. Stop cutting hours and expect more work to be done, it is physically impossible and exhausting.

    Pros

Quarterly raises, associates you work with are pleasant and down to earth.

    Cons

Training is skimmed over, and is usually where a lot of problems stem from. Employees being improperly trained on how to perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to train each and every individual. Incompetence usually starts at the top of this company and trickles down to mid level management and so on to associates.

    Pros

    Coworkers
More than one task per day

    Cons

    Customers
    Management
    Pay
Expectations are too high considering the lousy pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that most workers in their 20 aren't there because they're stupid - they're there because they are in college.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The managers are nice from around the entire store. I had an issue with a coworker and the managers were very quick to respond. The schedule is very flexible so long as you have it written a week before.

    Cons

They are Union and that means not much pay raises trickle in unless the union agrees. Also their full timers are considered supervisors so it muddles the roles sometimes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clarify the role differences between a manager and a full time employee.

    Pros

Paid holidays, paid vacation, sick time, personal days and time and half on sundays/holidays. Good with schedual requirements
    Some employees are nice
    Managers are nice

    Cons

    Boring
Get yelled at all the time ( I mean like 15 times/4hr shift) by customers with no motive
No room for improvement at all
Only a 15 min break 4-7 hour shifts.
    Min 4 hour shift
New people get hired in waves so everyone has to carry their baggage while customers compain about them making mistakes/being slow
    Rarely get appreciated for efforts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your enployees more. And I mean say "thank you" not just food 2/year. and promote from within.
