Too Many greedy Cheifs

ProsGood work force, great customers

ConsDisconnected from the realities of running the business. Driven by Massive egos and yes men.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat Place to Work?? Getting Better everyday? Great Place to Shop? Sadly their promises are as empty as their aisles will soon be. At least after customers get tired of the lack of help and missing sale items. The current regime is too focused on taking an easy task and making it harder. I sold groceries , I didn't sell missle parts. I have been in combat. That was not as stressfull as a day a store manager in this company. They have created a culture of fear and paranoia that runs throughout management. They have forgotten that happy associates create satisfied customers. Which drives sales period. Its that easy! or at least it should be.... The human resouces wing of the company seems to actually of found a way to to take the human out of it. You are a number, a cost of doing business. So if you would like to work for an egomaniac thats sole worry is reducing payroll and not you or the customer apply here. As for me I wouldn't let my family work there. They have lost their thunder!

No room to move up

ConsSlave driving Full-time force had no idea how dissatisfied their minumum wage employees were. There is no room for moving up just like they said

Annoying, disappointing, and not enough respect towards union workers.

ProsGood Union, predictable salary increase, meet a lot of new people

ConsUnpredictable hours, horrible management, you can ask for a day off but they might still schedule you and then suspend you if you don't show up.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop treating union workers like they are under you and understand that certain jobs take longer than you think they do no matter who does them.

ProsBenefits are nice, flexible hours, capable of climbing the ladder (though it seems to be fairly difficult)

ConsManagement is always under stress, not the same business it used to be, treat employees disrespectfully, only care about customers.

Could be Worse

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time for more than a year

Pros- Flexible scheduling, If you absolutely need to get the time off there is usually a way to make that happen.
- Individual department teams are fairly small and for the most part create that 'family' vibe.
- Depending on location, the customers you encounter are more often than not pleasant.
- Time and a half on Sundays/holidays.

Cons- Pay is terrible.
- Long term employees looking for advancement into the upper management tree must be willing to wait....a while.
- Full time employees face constant transferring to stores all over the state for weeks or months at a time.

Advice to Senior Management- If you want employee moral and satisfaction to be high that create that atmosphere where what they do really matters. Realize that the high turnover rate for part time employees is never a good thing and consistent dissatisfaction for full time employees is because of what seems like complete disregard for employe well-doing.

Great job for students or as your 1st job but lackluster for a permanent position.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time for more than 3 years

ProsHours can be flexible al long you ask your manager, many co-workers are great to be around, many positions that you can use to find what your best at and you can ask your manager for that position permanetly, good benefits for full-timers.

ConsTrue cons- You will meet an bad customer about every other day you work there (some are worse than others) making requests for schedule changes or an off day are stupid (why make a request two weeks before the prior day or week?) Seasonal pay increase should be a bit higher instead of 20. cents.

Opionated cons- My manager was horrible to get along with, especially if your on his/her bad side. Strange customers occasionally visit the store to cause disturbances.
