Pros
Stop & Shop is a good place to work if you are looking for a job with flexible working hours, an opportunity to advance to higher paying jobs and like working in a fast paced environment which allows you to deal with the public/
Cons
I would say that the biggest draw back at Stop & Shop is that there is not a feeling of being a team member. Most of the managers give little or no feedback to their employees. Perhaps its because there is a lot of turn over. there are times when you need help and get nothing from their management.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more loyal, trustworthy people that have good work ethics and can deal with the customer aspects of the job. Have all employees know and understand the requirements for their position. Develop more team activities and give more positive feedback when you are doing a good job
Pros
Good part time job while still in college. Decent pay. Co-workers are pleasant.
Cons
Management is not that good.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop personal relationship with employees. I worked in deli for over a year, the manager never cared to learn anything about any employee. All I learned about operations was through fellow co-workers
Pros
mangers are decent, work hard and they do praise you.
coworkers are nice to work with
some customers are really nice to deal with. Even know some of their names
supervisors aren't on my back to do my job, I make sure to do an excellent job no matter what. They trusted me to my job.
my hours had been the same most of the time. allowing me to have a life outside of work.
Cons
mangers and full timers getting transfered after a few years.
some coworkers don't pull their weight and get away with it.
hate the colors purple and yellow! I hate that apron! It's too long and the neckstrap hurts
Also the apron doesn't cover your yellow shirt, and the yellow shows the dirt.
some customers are class one jerks.
Advice to Senior Management
ditch that apron! Offer vests or smocks instead that are more comfortable. Also provide mesh vests for the cart pushers. Change the colors, purple and yellow don't mix well. Also have mangers from the area! Also have full timers opt out of transfers.
Pros
Flexible hours. Pay is compatible.
Cons
Working with the public can be trying at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the stores clean. Stock shelves at night..
Pros
benefits are great and you get one week of vacation for every year you are employed up to five weeks.
Cons
no oppurtunities for advancement and the hours are horrible. the pay isnt that great either. only two raises since started
Advice to Senior Management
stop hiring alot people and spread the hours between the people that already work there. train employees for all department
Pros
It's a good place for a high school student when in search for his or her first job. The hours are rather flexible to work around your school schedule.
Cons
The management is below average. Do not expect getting words of praise when you do a good job but expect to be put down when you mess up.
Advice to Senior Management
Common sense is the biggest piece of advice that I can provide to Stop and Shop management. If you do not need something on the shelves do not try and force it onto the shelves. Overstock seems to be a huge issue at Stop and Shop.
Pros
Meeting and working with (for the most part) nice people, doing your grocery shopping before or.after work, that's about all i can think of
Cons
Expect to be overworked and underpaid, especially if you enter the FT training, where you'll work even harder and longer hours for about the same pay rate. Once you get FT (it might take quire awhile) you can be transferred to other stores a long distance from where you live, with very little notice. Union will protect slasker's jobs once they get past their probation period. Customers keep getting ruder and ruder
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees more, stop cutting down their hours, reward hard workers with advancement opportunities and don't make their wait for years for them
Pros
Decent Work, not back breaking,
clean area, decent break room, good food
pay is on time and ok for this economy
Cons
On you feet a lot
monotony
wrist pain from small to medium items
Advice to Senior Management
allow a few more shorter breaks
Pros
They will work with you around a college schedule for the most part.
5% discount in store.
this is a Union job.
a week paid vacation after one year.
time and a half paid on sundays and holidays
Cons
Starting pay is minimum wage for the first year. Goes up by only 25 cents a year.
Need to work for two whole years before given any medical/ or other benefits.
Part timers have no guaranteed salary. One week you could work 15 hours, the next you could work 28, there's no way to know if you will make any real money or not.
You never have the same schedule. Schedule is posted by 3pm on fridays for the following week. Not easy to plan your life.
They feel it is ok to persuade you to work extra hours when someone else doesnt show up.
They also feel it is ok to tell you that you have to come in on your day off.
The job is unionized, but if you call the union for any help or advice, they take at least a month to call you back, or dont call you back at all.
Union dues are taken out of your pay every week, which is sad when the union hardly does anything for the employees.
In most cases, workers are NOT provided with proper protective equipment like they are supposed to be. Frozen clerks that work in the freezers are not given freezer jackets or shoes like they are supposed to get.
People working outside in freezing weather pushing carts are not given jackets either.
Advice to Senior Management
raise the starting pay so employees actually earn some money
give proper protective equipment that you are supposed to give.
Pros
Very flexible with student schedules.
Cons
Minimal pay, little opportunity for advancement unless you kiss the right you know what.
Advice to Senior Management
Priority should be given to long time employees instead of unqualified employees undeserving of management positions.
