    I worked at Stryker

    Pros

Great place to work, good people and good pay and benefits. I always felt I was doing something to help someone's quality of life.

    Cons

The company has lost focus to what has made it great, empowering it's people. Also the layers of management is astonishing, so much waste. I feel this will be the down fall of this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people in the trenches, they are your most important asset. Don't keep beating up the people that are doing all the work because it will come back to bite you in the end. Start taking a serious look at all the levels of management and job titles. How many Vice Presidents, Senior Directors, Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, Assoc. Manager, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Senior Project Engineer, Project Engineer. That's just a small sample. There are similar layers in IT, QA, HR, and so on.

I have been working at Stryker (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stryker is a medical device manufacturer whose products improve the lives of many. They have achieved rapid growth through acquisition. The pay and benefits are generous and Stryker frequently makes the list of 100 Best Places to work both locally and at a larger scale.

    Cons

As with many large corporations, sometimes the HR paperwork is a bit much. Many of the managers have a full workload in addition to managing direct reports. It tends to be difficult to achieve work/life balance in an organization that crosses so many time zones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When Stryker identifies a strategy, they tend to be quite successful in implementing it. However, while parts of the organization are laser focused, the other parts that are outside of that strategy tend to flounder.

I have been working at Stryker

    Pros

Great support of employees and appreciation for their positions. Above average salaries and great benefits. Constantly improving on current products and providing new devices to remain competitive in the market

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement which is attributed to employees who love their job and stick around. Company has so many different divisions it is difficult to communicate between divisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Experience is often more valuable than a 4 year degree. Many potentially great employees are overlooked due to this requirement.

  9. Different experience depending on your dept and not much diversity of perspective due to their hire screening process.

I worked at Stryker full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Invest in training their employees
    - Job security in a company that does well financially
    - Liked the opportunity to move into different fields on your career path at Stryker (but I've heard that may not be the case as much any more)

    Cons

    - Minimal diversity of personality perspectives in their professionals as their hiring process screens out anyone not built like their top-tier successful people in terms of strengths (missing a lot of "people" strengths)
    - Due to missing "people" strengths in part, they drive their people hard - a lot of burn-out
    - Some teams are great with work-life integration, but most have awful integration - again a lot of burn-out
    - So focused on beating the competition that there's minimal focus on purpose and the difference their products make in the world
    - Silo'd divisions rather than collaboration - competition with each other; although I hope this is changing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider filling a manager-level+ position in teams with someone with "people" strengths and not bringing in only new hires with the same personality profiles - there would be a lot less burn-out if there was drive, strategy, AND empathy as part of the management team. Different profiles don't last at Stryker because they're so rarely brought on-board and then they are just 1 in a sea of competitive achievers (it's great to have competitive achievers, but not without those who will help prevent the burn-out and the "unhealthy" competition amongst peers and other teams within Stryker).

    Pros

    Awesome work life balance
    Very Supportive management
Too many fun activities and quarter outings
    Decent pay scale

    Cons

    Not too many Cons
Should be little more flexible on work from home policy
A little liberal in onsite travel oppertunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top management is doing a really great job. Keep doing the good work.

    Pros

The company is growing but there is no investment in employees
