    Pros

I was an intern over the summer. The internship changed my life. It pushes you and helps you grow. They really care about the internship program and you can set up meetings with anyone in the building, including the president of the division. You are set up with a mentor and manager and given projects to be completed by the end of the internship and presented to a huge boardroom of people. They provide housing and some meal compensations for the summer and it was the best summer of my life.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, you work with your "best friends", profitable company, etc.

    Cons

    Pay is lower than expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A degree does not mean you should be a manager. Sometimes experience should compare to a degree.
Also when someone is not recruited they can still be on the fast track to management if you give them the same opportunities.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A culture built on a foundation of trust. Awesome autonomy. Amazing sense of purpose to make healthcare better and improve people's lives all over the world.

    Cons

Balance can be tough- but it's on the employee to own this. No cafeteria (with food) onsite but they are working on this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to hire great talent and give people the freedom to make a difference. A cafeteria that serves food will be a huge addition to the company.

I have been working at Stryker full-time

    Pros

Company's culture focuses on employees engagement and development. Managers have many tools and support from HR to develop and engage its employees. Company is currently growing through a transformation under new leadership, which is always refreshing and challenging.

    Cons

Building and its amenities do require serious work. Employees salaries is way behind the market in the silicon valley, so company always risks losing talent!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue supporting employees engagement, and work on improving employees compensations!!

I worked at Stryker (more than 3 years)

    Pros

High emphasis on a fun work culture and team building. Innovation and new ideas to get things done are welcome and valued usually. There is a strong belief that talent trumps skills (ie that successful and driven individuals can take on new tasks and job roles) and the upside is that most roles will allow you learn widely what might take you years to gain experience in at other companies.

    Cons

Overly competitive, numbers based work culture that often led to shortcuts and passing problems down stream in the work flow. The fun work culture sometimes made it difficult when you're one of the few team members that have a family. Certainly there's a feeling that certain individuals are "in" and rising stars and others ignored or frozen in their career path, leading to a very fierce competition to be on the inside. When I left the company I found out that I was able to make 40% more in a less demanding position at another company and others even more.

I worked at Stryker full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You do learn a lot and do receive the support to grow however, there is limited professional growth. Occasional off-sites. Benefits are okay.

    Cons

A TON of favoritism. Unless you are kissing someone's butt you will not get anywhere. Pay is BELOW average and living in the silicon valley you are basically poor. Upper Management does not care about the entry level positions. I always see employees who only been there less then a year get promoted but people that been there for several years stuck in the same position. Supervisors are basically employees who haven't been there for a long time yet they somehow know everything to get to that point. If you hold an hourly position, you STILL have to clock in which their actual hand scan who does that these days? Their technology/program is sadly outdated and lots of flaws within their own system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your customer service team more they are the face of Stryker. Stop promoting employees who only been there less then a year and give opportunities to employees who has done their time.

I have been working at Stryker as an intern

    Pros

The idea here is that you work with your best friends which makes coming to work fun. For the most part this is true. The environment is fast pace and embodies the "work hard, play hard" mentality. Many people are active and there are monetary incentives to stay fit and active. They also allow you to work from home for various reasons. Furthermore, the pay scale is based on performance which keeps out the stale non-working tenure employees out.

    Cons

This is an extremely difficult company to get in to since they screen for certain personalities. What may be a con for some is that you don't get automatic raises just because you have worked for so many years. Positions and raises are based on performance only so don't expect to fly under the radar and still do well.

I have been working at Stryker as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The interns are valued so highly at Stryker. They are given real, meaningful projects that make an impact on their division and the company as a whole. They are always encouraged and their opinions valued by the full time employees. They are given the opportunity to meet with people in upper management including a video chat with the CEO, Kevin Lobo. It is such an amazing opportunity to work with people who are so invested in your success. A personal manager and mentor work so hard for ever intern to keep them engaged, working hard, and learning. The culture at Stryker is also wonderful. It is a "work hard, play hard" attitude at most divisions. Personally, I don't know a single intern who doesn't love their job at Stryker, and after hearing from friends at other companies, this by far seems like the best internship.

    Cons

It is a challenging position to get as the interview process is one of the most extensive of any company. The largest one is that the pay is decent, but not at the high end, particularly for full time engineering positions. As an intern though, the pay is competitive and a few divisions include housing. Also, I have heard experiences vary between the divisions, but in general, I have no big complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thank you for valuing the interns. It makes a big difference, and I hope you continue to hire so many of us.
